Coexistence of surface lattice resonances and bound states in the continuum in a plasmonic lattice

Quoc Trung Trinh et al.

Summary: In this study, a numerical investigation is conducted on a 2D array of plasmonic structures covered by a subwavelength film. The origin of surface lattice resonances (SLRs) is explained using the coupled dipole approximation. It is demonstrated that diffraction-assisted plasmonic resonances and the formation of bound states in the continuum (BICs) can be controlled by altering the optical environment. The findings have implications for the streamlined design of plasmonic lattices in studying light-matter interactions and applications in biosensors and optoelectronic devices.

Summary: This study demonstrates a specially designed TMD Huygens metasurface that overcomes the absorption limit of a subwavelength thin film, achieving a super-high absorption rate of up to 87%. The metasurface can control the absorption rate throughout the entire near-infrared region, regardless of polarization and angle, offering important potential applications.

Local field enhancement using a photonic-plasmonic nanostructure

Liyi Hsu et al.

Summary: Optical nanoantennas have the ability to efficiently confine, localize resonance, and significantly enhance electromagnetic fields at a subwavelength scale. By combining optical nanoantennas with Slanted Bound states in the continuum cavities, even stronger confinement can be achieved. The proposed hybrid system demonstrates six orders of magnitude local intensity enhancement, paving the way for applications such as optical trapping, optical sensing, nonlinear optics, and quantum optics.
