Dependence of fretting wear on the microstructure characteristics and impact on the subsurface stability of a metastable β titanium alloy

Ke Hua et al.

Summary: The study focused on the fretting behaviors of a metastable beta titanium alloy with different microstructures. Results showed that the wear volume is more sensitive to stroke amplitude, and mixed abrasive-adhesive wear is dominant. Different microstructural features significantly affect wear resistance and subsurface microstructure stability. The findings provide valuable data for predicting fatigue life after fretting.

The determining role of carbon addition on mechanical performance of a non-equiatomic high-entropy alloy

Xiaolin Li et al.

Summary: The mechanical properties and deformation mechanism of a C-doped interstitial high-entropy alloy were studied, and an excellent combination of strength and ductility was achieved through cold rolling and annealing. The deformation mechanism was found to involve dislocation slip, deformation-driven phase transformation, and deformation twinning. The simultaneous effect of phase transformation and mechanical twinning delayed the shrinkage and improved the tensile strength and plasticity.

High-temperature oxidation and wear properties of TiC-reinforced CrMnFeCoNi high entropy alloy composite coatings produced by laser cladding

Da Sun et al.

Summary: Extensive research has been conducted on high entropy alloy composite coatings reinforced with micro-sized ceramic particles at room temperature. However, studies on their properties at high temperatures are limited. This study investigated the oxidation and tribological properties of CrMnFeCoNi/xTiC composite coatings produced by laser cladding at a temperature of 600 degrees C. The addition of TiC promoted the oxidation process and the formation of a wear-resistant intermediate layer. The coatings exhibited low hardness, low wear rate, and high coefficient of friction due to the formation of a composite oxide film on the worn surface with good adhesion to the matrix.

Effect of WC-12Co on the mechanical and wear performance of laser melting deposition nickel-based alloy

Ruifeng Di et al.

Summary: This study investigated the effect of WC-12Co on microstructure, tribological characteristics, and mechanical properties of Ni-Cu alloy using laser melting deposition. The results showed that WC particles dissolved and diffused during laser cladding, resulting in finer microstructure and compound formation in Ni-Cu alloy. WC particles improved the hardness, wear resistance, and tensile strength of Ni-Cu alloy, but had limited effect on plasticity.

Shi-Yi Zhang et al.

Summary: A series of Stellite3 matrix composite coatings containing Ti3SiC2/Cu were prepared by laser cladding to improve the wear and oxidation resistance of IN718 superalloy. The coatings exhibited higher microhardness and improved wear resistance, with the Stellite3-5%Ti3SiC2-10%Cu coating performing the best. Furthermore, the Stellite3-10% Ti3SiC2 coating showed better oxidation and wear resistance under high temperatures.

Ke Hua et al.

Summary: The study investigated the effect of pre-immersion corrosion in LBE on the fretting behavior of AISI 316 stainless steel. It was found that long-duration corrosion led to a degradation in wear resistance due to the formation of a large oxide layer and fretting fatigue wear becoming dominant.

The synergistic effect of wear-corrosion in stainless steels: A review

Majdouline Maher et al.

Summary: The consequence of coupling wear and corrosion is not simply the sum of wear and corrosion occurring separately. The synergistic effect means that corrosion is accelerated by the removal of the passivating layer due to wear, and corrosion can also accelerate abrasion when a brittle surface layer is formed and subsequently removed by abrasion. The synergism between wear and corrosion is complex and the interaction between mechanical and chemical factors governing tribocorrosion is not fully understood.

Effects of residual thermal stress on mechanical behavior of cermets with different grain sizes

Jinghong Chen et al.

Summary: The distribution of residual thermal stress in cermets and its interaction with applied stress were studied in WC-Co cemented carbides. The study found that WC grain size significantly influences the residual thermal stress, with smaller grain size, lower Co thin-layer proportion, and higher triple junction proportion beneficial for reducing stress concentration. In cermets with residual thermal stress, the metallic binder shows an increasing strain response rate under external loading, providing insights into adjusting stress distribution for improved mechanical properties.

Improving surface resistance to wear and corrosion of nickel-aluminum bronze by laser-clad TaC/Co-based alloy composite coatings

Zhiyuan Li et al.

Summary: The TaC/Stellite X-40 Co-based composite coatings were successfully fabricated on NAB substrates through laser surface cladding, resulting in improved wear and corrosion resistances in marine environments. The incorporation of carbide and intermetallic reinforcements in the gamma-Co matrix led to enhanced wear and electrochemical corrosion resistances. With a higher TaC content in the coatings, the microhardness increased and the wear rate decreased significantly, indicating improved performance of the composite coatings.

Yusheng Zhang et al.

Summary: The study investigated the effect of fretting frequency on fretting corrosion behavior between Alloy 690TT heat-exchanger tube and 405 stainless steel plate in simulated secondary water of pressurized water reactor nuclear power plants. It found that wear volume and wear coefficient of 690TT tube showed an initial increase then decrease with frequency, while those of corresponding 405 SS plate gradually increased. Friction and wear mechanisms varied accordingly, with changes in friction coefficient, dissipated energy, and wear mechanism observed.
