Chemical Pressure Effects on the Stokes Shift of Bi3+ Luminescence in Orthorhombic Perovskites

Summary: The relationship between the Stokes shift of Bi3+ emission and the volume of the unit-cell in orthorhombic perovskites has been explored. It was found that the Stokes shift increases linearly with increasing cell volume, which can be explained by the lattice chemical pressure acting on the Bi3+ ion. The off-centering displacement of the Bi3+ ion is controlled by the chemical pressure, and a larger cell allows for a larger off-centering displacement, resulting in a larger Stokes shift of emission.

Validation of the Crystallography Open Database using the Crystallographic Information Framework

Summary: The data curation practices of the Crystallography Open Database (COD) are described in this article, with a focus on formal validation using the Crystallographic Information Framework (CIF). The cif_validate program, capable of validating CIF files against both DDL1 and DDLm dictionaries, is presented and used to process the entire COD. Validation results from over 450000 CIF files are shown to be a valuable resource in data maintenance and ontology development, along with a set of programs intended to aid in dictionary migration from DDL1 to DDLm.

Luminescence and structural properties of ytterbium and erbium co-doped LaGaO3 nanophosphor for up-conversion by polyol method

Summary: Ytterbium and erbium co-doped lanthanum gallate (LaGaO3) up-conversion phosphors were synthesized using polyol method and heating process. Increasing annealing temperature from 1000°C to 1200°C resulted in higher green to red ratio (GRR) and lifetime values, attributed to the increase in crystallite size and decrease in non-radiative processes. Variations in n values accounted for the increase in GRR values with higher laser power in samples annealed at 1000°C and 1200°C.
