A dual-mode optical fiber sensor for SERS and fluorescence detection in liquid

Minglu Li et al.

Summary: In this paper, a dual-mode fiber sensor for Surface-enhanced Raman Scattering (SERS) and fluorescence detection is proposed. The sensor is formed by a tapered optical fiber, half of the fiber tip surface is coated with Ag nanoparticles. By combining the Raman spectral features and the fluorescence intensity, the recognition and quantitation of target molecules were obtained reliably. It is the first time, to our knowledge, that the Raman-fluorescence dual-mode detection is realized in one single fiber, which was manufactured with micro-machinery techniques. It is a label-free, general-purpose fiber sensor, which can be applied for liquid biopsy, helping to diagnose and treat diseases in vivo.

A Microfluid Fiber Device for Trace Detection of Aggregation Induced Emission Molecules

Yudi Li et al.

Summary: An ultra-sensitive microfluid device for detecting aggregation of induced emission molecules is proposed and demonstrated. By using a micromachined fiber tip and a liquid core waveguide, the minimum detectable concentration is greatly reduced. The device, with its compact size, small sample volume, and high sensitivity, has great potential for biosensing applications.

Unraveling the potential of Gd doping on mullite Bi2Fe4O9 for fiber optic ethanol gas detection at room temperature

Subha Krishna Rao et al.

Summary: Development of multiferroic materials is gaining importance due to its potential multifunctional properties, in addition to their non-toxicity and cost effectiveness. In this study, pristine Bi2Fe4O9 (BFO) and Gadolinium doped Bi2Fe4O9 (BGFO) were synthesized using the solid state ball milling technique. The results showed that Gadolinium ions were successfully incorporated into the BFO lattice without altering the structure. Optical analysis revealed enhanced absorption and improved conduction in the Gd doped samples, particularly BGFO(3) sample, which also exhibited superior ethanol gas sensing properties at room temperature.

Design and sensing characteristics of ethanol fiber probe elaborated by ZnO nanosheets

Shuang Zhang et al.

Summary: A reflective typed fiber probe has been proposed for determining ethanol concentration, with enhanced sensing performance through modification of ZnO nanosheets. The probe structure effectively improves ethanol sensitivity, but sensing performance is still seriously dependent on the selection of polymer and optimization of film coating process.

Y and Al co-doped ZnO-nanopowder based ultrasensitive trace ethanol sensor: A potential breath analyzer for fatty liver disease and drunken driving detection

Subhajit Mojumder et al.

Summary: This study presents a highly sensitive and selective Al and Y co-doped ZnO nanopowder sensor for detecting trace ethanol in exhaled breath. The sensor exhibits rapid response and recovery time, good repeatability, and long-term stability, as well as excellent selectivity towards ethanol. It has the potential to be used for detecting liver problems and for breathalyzer testing in cases of drunken driving.
