Cross-sensitivity immune SPR sensor based on fan-shaped microstructured optical fiber for temperature and refractive index sensing

Wandi Zhang et al.

Summary: In order to solve the problems of coating, fiber hole filling, phase-matching, and cross-sensitivity, a surface plasmon resonance sensor based on a fan-shaped microstructured optical fiber (MOF) is proposed for simultaneous temperature and refractive index (RI) sensing. The fan-shaped structure is fabricated by polishing two sides of MOF with an angle of 120°. The sensor has two independent sensing sides, one coated with a gold film and polydimethylsiloxane layer for temperature sensing, and the other coated with only a gold film for RI sensing. By monitoring the shifts of the resonance peaks, the temperature sensitivity is found to be 2.932 nm/°C in the range of 30°C to 40°C, and the RI sensitivity is 4235 nm/RIU in the range of 1.38 to 1.39.

Sensitivity enhancement of a plasmonic biosensor for urine glucose detection by employing black phosphorous

Archana Yadav et al.

Summary: A novel optimized structure for a biosensor is proposed, which enhances the sensitivity of urine glucose detection. By adding a few layers of black phosphorous between the gold and silver layers, the sensitivity is increased up to 1.5 times. Further enhancement up to 3 times is achieved with the addition of BP sheet layers. The biosensor shows significant resonance shift and higher sensitivity in response to changes in refractive indices.

Theoretical Studies and Simulation of Gold-Silica-Gold Multilayer Fanoshells for Sensing Applications

Luke C. Ugwuoke et al.

Summary: In this study, we develop a theoretical framework to predict the localized surface plasmon resonances in multilayer nanoshells. We show that the resonances are more suppressed when both the core and outer shell are offset. By using three performance parameters, we propose the optimal multilayer nanoshell for sensing applications.

Multichannel Fiber Optic SPR Sensors: Realization Methods, Application Status, and Future Prospects

Siqi Zhang et al.

Summary: Fiber optic sensors based on surface plasmon resonance (SPR) have shown excellent performance in various fields such as biomedical, environmental monitoring, and public safety, providing a powerful platform for qualitative detection and quantitative analysis of molecular interactions. Multichannel fiber optic SPR sensors have become a core tool in parallel detection scenarios due to their ability to compensate for nonspecific binding and environmental fluctuations, and to enable multi-analyte determination. This review analyzes and compares the structure, excitation effect, sensing performance, advantages and disadvantages of different types of multichannel fiber optic SPR sensors. Despite some challenges, efforts in multidisciplinary research, including developing high-performance sensitive films and innovative micro-nano fabrication processes, will overcome these obstacles. Finally, the future development directions of multichannel fiber optic SPR sensors from principle, structure, and material aspects are discussed.

The effect of gain-assisted silica separate layer on the plasmonic local field enhancement of Ag-Si-Ag coaxial-cable type silver nanotube

Jian Zhu et al.

Summary: The computational study investigates the plasmonic local electric field enhancement characteristics of a gain-assisted coaxial-cable type AgSi-Ag nanotube. Different surface plasmon resonance (SPR) hybridization modes are influenced by the gain medium in the separate silica layer, with critical gain coefficients leading to peak local field enhancement. Varying the geometry factors of the nanostructure can adjust the critical gain coefficient, showing that the thickness of the silica nanolayer with gain medium plays a crucial role in determining the maximum plasmonic field enhancement.
