Nonlinear analysis of laterally loaded single pile in layered soil based on conical strain wedge model

Lixing Wang et al.

Summary: The novel conical strain wedge (CSW) model is used to simulate the pile-soil interaction and perform nonlinear analysis of laterally loaded monopiles in layered soils. The CSW model demonstrates higher accuracy in simulating stress states and capturing failure patterns. The efficiency and accuracy of the CSW method are verified through comparison with field test results and a comprehensive parametric study is conducted to investigate the sensitivity of input parameters.

Nonlinear analysis of single pile settlement based on stress bubble fictitious soil pile model

Lixing Wang et al.

Summary: A new nonlinear method for the vertical settlement of pile is proposed in this paper, taking into account both pile end stress diffusion effect and pile-soil interface softening effect. A stress bubble fictitious soil pile model is introduced to simulate the support from the pile bottom soil, and a nonlinear soil softening model is utilized to establish the relationship between unit pile shaft friction and pile-soil relative displacement. The integration of these two models leads to a nonlinear calculation method for load-settlement analysis in multilayered soil. The proposed method is verified and shown to be valid and accurate through comparisons with experimental and existing simplified methods.

Numerical analysis of the cyclic loading behavior of monopile and hybrid pile foundation

Lichen Li et al.

Summary: This paper studies the behavior of monopile and hybrid pile foundation under cyclic lateral load using three-dimensional coupled discrete continuum modeling. The results indicate that increasing pile stiffness and using hybrid pile foundation can improve the stiffness and reduce the lateral displacement of the foundation. Additionally, the use of additional footing and bucket can improve the efficiency of soil resistance mobilization in shallow soil.

Ultimate lateral resistance of piles in sand based on the modified strain wedge model

Xun Zhang et al.

Summary: This paper proposes a novel method for calculating the ultimate lateral resistance exerted by sandy soil against laterally loaded piles, which is validated through laboratory and field tests. The study also explores the variations in the modified strain wedge shape and ultimate bearing capacity of piles with different relative stiffness.

Experimental and numerical study on the static lateral performance of monopile and hybrid pile foundation

Lichen Li et al.

Summary: The concept of hybrid pile foundation has been proposed and studied to overcome the limitations of conventional monopiles in supporting offshore wind turbines. This paper conducts static lateral load tests on model piles and hybrid pile foundations in saturated sand, and analyzes the influence of pile stiffness and hybrid foundation type on lateral response. Experimental results show that the lateral capacity of the hybrid pile foundation is significantly improved compared to the monopile foundation. The numerical analysis reveals the load transfer mechanism and the efficiency of soil resistance mobilization of different pile foundations.

Dynamic torsional impedance of large-diameter pipe pile for offshore engineering: 3D analytical solution

Yunpeng Zhang et al.

Summary: This study proposes a novel 3D torsional soil-pile interaction model and derives the corresponding analytical solution for the 3D dynamic torsional impedance at the pile cross-section. The solution is validated against existing solutions and the study concludes that the classic one-dimensional theory overestimates the impedance of the pipe pile and that the impedance varies in the radial direction at the pile cross-section.

Analytical solution for lateral vibration of offshore pipe piles considering hydrodynamic pressure

Libo Chen et al.

Summary: This study aims to develop a mathematical model to investigate the lateral dynamic response of offshore pipe piles. The lateral vibration characteristics of the pipe pile and soil resistance are calculated using the Timoshenko beam theory and Biot's poroelastic theory, respectively. The model also considers the influence of hydrodynamic pressure based on the radiation wave theory. The analytical solution for the lateral dynamic impedance of pile head is determined and validated with experimental results. Numerical discussions are conducted to show the influence of hydrodynamic pressure, water depth, embedment depth, and pile diameter-length ratio on the lateral dynamic impedance and natural frequency of offshore piles. The main findings highlight the significant impact of hydrodynamic pressure on the natural frequency and the weakening effect of inner water on the dynamic stability of offshore pipe piles.

Analytical solution for kinematic response of offshore piles under vertically propagating S-waves

Libo Chen et al.

Summary: This study develops an analytical framework to investigate the kinematic response of offshore piles under vertically propagating S-waves considering hydrodynamic pressure. The rationality and accuracy of the proposed mathematical model have been verified by comparing the calculated results with the existing studies. Parametric analyses are conducted to investigate the influence of hydrodynamic pressure, water depth, embedment depth, slenderness ratio, and soil porosity on the kinematic response of offshore piles.

Theoretical interaction diagrams of a laterally loaded rigid caisson considering base shear and moment resistances

Jiunn-Shyang Chiou et al.

Summary: In this study, theoretical solutions and interaction diagrams of the lateral responses of a rigid caisson in three types of elastoplastic soil considering the influences of base shear and moment resistances are proposed. The effects of base moment and shear resistances are considered by modifying the loads at the caisson head in the basic solutions, which do not account for the base effects. The base effects distinctly influence the shape and size of the failure envelope.

Analytical Interaction Diagram for Lateral Responses of a Rigid Pile in Homogeneous Overconsolidated Clay

Jiunn-Shyang Chiou et al.

Summary: This paper introduces analytical solutions and a normalized interaction diagram for analyzing the lateral responses of a rigid pile under combined horizontal force and moment. The analysis model accounts for different soil yielding states and derives displacement and rotation responses for various soil conditions through equilibrium equations. Additionally, a normalized interaction diagram between pile-head moment and horizontal force is developed to trace the soil yielding state and displacement mode under pile-head loading conditions.
