A Novel Approach to Simulate Cone Penetration Test Using Conventional FEM

Kritesh Chouhan et al.

Summary: Large deformation problems in geotechnical engineering are typically solved using advanced large deformation finite element formulations such as coupled Eulerian-Lagrangian and arbitrary Lagrangian-Eulerian. However, these methods are time-consuming compared to conventional finite element methods. In this study, a new methodology is proposed and used to solve a specific large deformation problem, the cone penetration test. The proposed methodology represents the numerical simulations of continuous penetration using conventional finite element method and introduces a reduction factor to account for the varying ultimate resistance of the cone in the soil.

A comparison of jack-up spudcan penetration predictions and recorded field data

Summary: This paper reviews the installation of jack-up spudcan foundations in layered sand-over-clay profiles, presenting a modified mechanism-based method to predict penetration resistance. The updated method shows a reasonable match to field measurements.
