Approach for Installation and Logistics of a Floating Offshore Wind Farm

Hugo Diaz et al.

Summary: An approach is developed for planning the logistics and installation aspects of a floating wind farm, considering the complexity of the problem due to specific constraints in transportation and manufacturing. The planning tool is based on the analysis of different logistical solutions and aims to ensure the coherence between logistic methods and project performance. A case study is performed for the CENTEC TLP concept in Spanish and Irish waters, revealing the major aspects affecting design and logistics factors. The tool is applicable for the preliminary design of wind farms worldwide.

Micro sitting of floating wind turbines in a wind farm using a multi-criteria framework

H. Diaz et al.

Summary: A novel procedure is introduced to optimize the placement of floating turbines in a wind farm, using the Weighted Product Model (WPM) as a Multi-Criteria Decision Method (MCDM). The turbine position is determined based on technical, economic, and environmental criteria, incorporating expert knowledge through the Ranking Method (RM). The method is tested on two potential locations for a floating wind farm and successfully provides the optimal arrangement of wind turbines.

Application of Monte Carlo and Fuzzy Analytic Hierarchy Processes for ranking floating wind farm locations

H. Diaz et al.

Summary: A Monte Carlo simulation procedure is developed to select the optimum location of wind farms by combining major decision criteria and subjective judgments from decision-makers. The method utilizes Monte Carlo simulation, conventional Analytic Hierarchy Process, and Fuzzy Analytic Hierarchy Process. It is applied to offshore wind farms in Spain to rank the most suitable turbine positioning locations.

A novel multi-criteria decision-making model to evaluate floating wind farm locations

H. Diaz et al.

Summary: This paper presents a method for planning offshore wind farm locations using multi criteria decision analysis and geographic information systems. Various criteria are considered, including technological, environmental, social, and economic factors, to evaluate and rank potential locations. The robustness of the results is assessed through sensitivity and consensus analyses, demonstrating the potential of the tool to support planners in designating regions for floating wind farm development.

Feasibility analysis for floating offshore wind energy

Carmela Maienza et al.

Summary: This study assesses the economic feasibility of floating offshore wind farms (FOWFs) and proposes a method to analyze different types of floaters at a territorial scale. The results show that the Semi-Submersible Platform (SSP) is the most promising floater type, and wind speed has a greater impact on financial parameters than farm costs. The findings provide guidance and decision support for conducting feasibility analyses of FOWF installations.

Comparison of multicriteria analysis techniques for decision making on floating offshore wind farms site selection

H. Diaz et al.

Summary: This study compares the application of Analytic Hierarchy Process (AHP) and Multiple Attribute Decision Analysis (MADA) in different selection approaches. Through analyzing wind farm location case studies, the research shows that both methods have their own merits, with AHP performing better in terms of computational complexity, while MADA being more flexible and time-saving in the location selection process.

Floating offshore wind and the real options to relocate

Jostein Tvedt

Summary: This article examines the impact of real options to relocate on the profitability of the floating offshore wind industry and the mitigation of cost disadvantage compared to fixed-bottom offshore wind. Optimal relocation strategies and real options values are derived under uncertainty, taking into account risk factors such as electricity prices, capacity factors, political uncertainty, collateral valuation, environmental issues, and technological progress.

A Minimalistic Prediction Model to Determine Energy Production and Costs of Offshore Wind Farms

Jens Norkaer Sorensen et al.

Summary: The study presents a numerical framework for determining the available wind power and associated costs related to the development of large-scale offshore wind farms. It combines an energy production model with a cost model that only requires global input parameters to calculate the production and costs of wind farms. The cost model is based on previous experiences from offshore wind farms and is generally conservative.

Coupled analysis of a 10 MW multi-body floating offshore wind turbine subjected to tendon failures

Yang Yang et al.

Summary: This study analyzes and predicts the dynamic responses of a 10 MW offshore wind turbine in different tendon breakage scenarios, showing that the platform's behavior is significantly affected by the health of the tendons. Tendon breakages can amplify roll and yaw motions by 6 times and increase peak tension in adjacent tendons by 165%. Multi-fractal spectra of platform accelerations under various tendon failure scenarios effectively identify and diagnose tendon failures, crucial for developing a structural health monitoring system for FOWTs.
