Scattering of Flexural Gravity Waves by a Pair of Submerged Vertical Porous Barriers Located Above a Porous Sea-Bed

Ayan Chanda et al.

Summary: This study presents an analytical investigation on the scattering of oblique flexural gravity waves by a pair of vertically placed porous barriers submerged in a homogeneous fluid with a porous sea-bed. The analysis takes into account a thin ice-sheet as the upper surface, treated as a thin elastic plate, and examines the reflection and transmission coefficients, energy loss, and wave forces for different parameter values. The study shows the significant influence of the barriers' inertial effect on wave reflection and dissipation of wave energy, as well as the impact of the length of the barriers on hydrodynamic forces. It further demonstrates the obstructive effect of the porous sea-bed on wave transmission and the effect of the ice-sheet on the propagation of flexural waves.

Integral equation technique for water wave interaction by an array of vertical flexible porous wave barriers

Santanu Koley et al.

Summary: Scattering of obliquely incident surface gravity waves by an array of partial flexible vertical porous wave barriers of varied configurations in different water depths and deep water cases was studied using linearized water wave theory. The research involved solving boundary value problems through Fredholm integral equations, converting them to linear algebraic equations for computation of physical quantities and deriving energy identities. The study was extended to analyze wave scattering by multiple non-identical unequally spaced barriers, with results for equally spaced identical barriers obtained as a special case. The methodology used has the potential for generalization to solve similar problems in mathematical physics.

Bragg scattering of long flexural gravity waves by an array of submerged trenches and the analysis of blocking dynamics

S. C. Barman et al.

Summary: The Bragg scattering of long flexural gravity waves due to an array of submerged trenches is studied under the shallow water approximation and small amplitude structural response in the presence of lateral compressive force. The group velocity vanishes at two different points in the frequency space for specific values of the compressive force, known as primary and secondary blocking points. The presence of more than two submerged trenches causes irregularities and an increase in wave amplitude in the Bragg reflection pattern when superposed with multiple propagating wave modes within the blocking limits of the compressive force.

Time-dependent wave motion with undulated bottom

Sanjay Kumar Mohanty

Summary: This manuscript analyzes the time-dependent capillary gravity wave motion in the presence of a current and an undulated permeable bottom. The reflection and transmission coefficients due to the small bottom undulation are obtained using different methods. It is found that wave energy propagates faster for larger values of the Froude number. The study also verifies wave energy propagation characteristics through simulations and spectral methods.
