Evaluation of the Applicability of Three Methods for Climatic Spatial Interpolation in the Hengduan Mountains Region

Xiaoming Xu et al.

Summary: Based on the research conducted in the Hengduan Mountains Region, it has been found that the thin plate smooth spline (TPSS) is the most suitable method for spatial interpolation of climatic data in this region. TPSS has shown high interpolation accuracy and performance, providing high-precision climatic data that could potentially improve regional weather forecasts and disaster warnings.

Bayesian maximum entropy interpolation of sea surface temperature data: A comparative assessment

Zekun Gao et al.

Summary: Sea surface temperature (SST) is an important attribute in oceanography, and the Bayesian maximum entropy (BME) method is proven to be the most accurate in interpolating SST. This study combined BME interpolation with highly correlated SST data to create valuable soft data. The results showed that BME had the best interpolation performance with the lowest bias and the largest correlation coefficient compared to other methods.

Optimizing Automated Kriging to Improve Spatial Interpolation of Monthly Rainfall over Complex Terrain

Matthew P. Lucas et al.

Summary: This study applies an optimized geostatistical kriging approach to obtain high-resolution gridded monthly rainfall time series for Hawaii. The results are validated using cross-validation and show good agreement with observations, although there may be underestimation of high rainfall events due to the smoothing effect of kriging. The study highlights the importance of considering additional sources of error assessment and modifying parameterizations for realistic gridded rainfall surfaces.

Prediction of MODIS land surface temperature using new hybrid models based on spatial interpolation techniques and deep learning models

Serkan Kartal et al.

Summary: The accurate prediction of land surface temperature (LST) is crucial for climate change, ecology, environmental, and industrial studies. This study utilized various machine learning models to predict LST and employed different methods to address the issue of missing pixels. The performance of the models was evaluated through metrics such as root mean square error and mean absolute error, using data from a specific region in Turkey.

Performance Assessment of Spatial Interpolation Methods for the Estimation of Atmospheric Carbon Dioxide in the Wider Geographic Extent

Muhammad Salaha Uddin et al.

Summary: Spatially continuous observed atmospheric CO2 is crucial for validating emission inventory and measuring policy effectiveness. This study presents a methodological approach that interpolates satellite-based observed XCO2 data to overcome the current limitations. The results show that the Spline method performs better in a wider spatial extent, while the OK method explains ground-based station data more effectively.

A Contextual Hybrid Model for Vessel Movement Prediction

Saeed Mehri et al.

Summary: The paper introduces a novel trajectory simplification method based on context awareness and deep neural networks, improving prediction accuracy and compression ratio of vessel movement significantly. The experimental results demonstrate the superiority of the proposed approach, with compressed trajectories closer to original trajectories compared to current methods.

Information-theoretic feature selection with segmentation-based folded principal component analysis (PCA) for hyperspectral image classification

Md. Palash Uddin et al.

Summary: Hyperspectral images contain valuable information for land cover classification, with techniques like PCA for feature extraction and cumulative variance accumulation for feature selection commonly employed. However, non-linear measures like the nMI-based mRMR can be more effective at selecting intrinsic features from the transformed space of FE methods. Experiment results showed that these non-linear measures outperformed existing methods on real HSI datasets.
