'You run out of hope': an exploration of low-income parents' experiences with food insecurity using Photovoice

Summary: This study used an adaption of the Photovoice method to explore how food insecurity affected parents' ability to provide food for their family, their strategies for managing household food insecurity and the impact of food insecurity on their well-being. The findings revealed that factors such as food environment, limited resources, negative emotions, and providing special foods for children all played a role in the experiences of food insecurity. Further research is needed to improve nutrition interventions for food-insecure families.

Residents' Insights on Their Local Food Environment and Dietary Behaviors: A Cross-City Comparison Using Photovoice in Spain

Summary: Despite sharing similar cultural and socioeconomic contexts, perceptions of local food environments and participatory research abilities may vary among participants in Madrid and Bilbao, Spain. Common themes emerged in both cities' narratives about local food environments, but citizens in Bilbao perceived sufficient availability of healthy foods compared to those living in impoverished communities. Photovoice proved to be a useful tool for engaging citizens in improving their local food environments in both cities, allowing for a cross-city comparison to better understand residents' diverse perceptions.

The Food Environment of Primary School Learners in a Low-to-Middle-Income Area in Cape Town, South Africa

It was found that vegetables were consumed less frequently in households, with a majority of students bringing lunchboxes to school. Further investigation is needed in urban and informal settlement areas to address the availability of unhealthy foods, household eating behaviors, and the healthfulness of foods sold at informal food outlets.

Using crowd-sourced data for real-time monitoring of food prices during the COVID-19 pandemic: Insights from a pilot project in northern Nigeria
