Racism, colonialism and the implications for the nursing scholarship: A discussion paper

Summary: This article discusses the intersections between racism and colonialism as social determinants of health and how these ideologies shape nursing inquiry. The failure to address health inequity affects all groups, as shown in the COVID-19 pandemic. Racism and colonialism are interconnected and influence nursing scholarship, creating challenges for equitable distribution of resources. Nursing cannot be separated from its sociopolitical context. There is a need for an antiracist agenda and decolonization of nursing to address these issues.

The study emphasizes the importance of fostering a spiritually supportive work environment in healthcare organizations to improve staff engagement, satisfaction, and ultimately, enhance patient care quality.

Exploring racism and racialization in the work of healthcare chaplains: a case for a critical multifaith approach

Little research has been done on how healthcare chaplains experience and respond to these social processes. This study applies a critical race lens to understand racism and racialization in healthcare chaplaincy and proposes a critical multifaith approach. The findings reveal the complex intersection of colonialism, religion, race, and gender in healthcare chaplaincy.
