Role of interleukin 6 as a predictive factor for a severe course of Covid-19: retrospective data analysis of patients from a long-term care facility during Covid-19 outbreak

P. Sabaka et al.

Summary: This study explored the role of interleukin 6 (IL-6) as a predictor for severe disease during a COVID-19 outbreak in a long-term care facility in Slovakia. The concentration of IL-6 > 24 pg/mL at initial assessment was found to predict the development of hypoxemia requiring hospitalization with excellent sensitivity and good specificity.

Frequency of Interleukin-6 rs1800795 (-174G/C) and rs1800797 (-597G/A) Polymorphisms in COVID-19 Patients in Turkey Who Develop Macrophage Activation Syndrome

Ferhan Kerget et al.

Summary: The study aimed to evaluate the relationship between interleukin-6 (IL-6) gene polymorphisms -174G/C and -597G/A and the course of COVID-19. Significant differences were found in the frequencies of the IL-6-174G/C polymorphism between the MAS and non-MAS groups, suggesting that the G allele may be a risk factor for macrophage activation syndrome.
