Multipactor-Triggering Powers' Modelling of a WEST ICRH Antenna During RF Conditioning

Eva Al Hajj Sleiman et al.

Summary: Pressure rises are measured inside the antennas during the RF conditioning of the ion cyclotron resonance heating (ICRH) system under vacuum, potentially caused by the multipactor phenomenon. A methodology is proposed to determine the multipactor conditions in such a context. The results show that detuning the capacitors can suppress the multipactor phenomenon in the nonpowered side of the antenna.

Evaluation of multipactor thresholds for coaxial lines subject to surface conditioning for the WEST ion cyclotron antenna

Eva Al Hajj Sleiman et al.

Summary: This study reproduces multipactor voltage threshold charts and scaling laws for 30-ohm circular coaxial geometries using a developed algorithm based on electron time-evolution data. The methodology is validated by comparing simulated multipactor powers with measured thresholds, and the effects of conditioning on electron emission yield and surface properties are examined, showing that preliminary baking and conditioning can suppress or reduce the range in which multipactor can be triggered.

WEST actively cooled load resilient ion cyclotron resonance heating system results

J. Hillairet et al.

Summary: By designing, assembling, and commissioning three identical new ICRH antennas, WEST has achieved efficient plasma heating and demonstrated load resilience and compatibility with long-pulse operations. The successful operation of the antennas together on plasma, combined with breakdown detection systems, have led to the triggering of high confinement mode transitions on WEST.
