Machine-learning guided optimization of laser pulses for direct-drive implosions

Fuyuan Wu et al.

Summary: This paper proposes an efficient intelligent method for laser pulse optimization using genetic algorithm and random forest algorithm guided hydrodynamic simulations. It is able to significantly improve areal density and reduce in-flight-aspect ratio, and a relationship between maximum areal density and ion temperature is achieved through analysis of a large simulation dataset.

Lawson Criterion for Ignition Exceeded in an Inertial Fusion Experiment

H. Abu-Shawareb et al.

Summary: For over half a century, researchers worldwide have been working towards achieving fusion ignition as a proof of principle for various fusion concepts. A recent experiment using laser indirect drive at the National Ignition Facility successfully achieved controlled fusion and capsule gain by meeting the Lawson criterion through nine different formulations.

Efficient energy transition from kinetic to internal energy in supersonic collision of high-density plasma jets from conical implosions

Zhang Zhe et al.

Summary: The experimental collision of supersonic jets in the double-cone ignition scheme results in the formation of a high-density plasma core, where kinetic energy is converted into internal energy leading to increased density and temperature. Various diagnostic tools are employed to characterize the plasma, revealing a significant increase in density during the collision and the conversion of 90% of kinetic energy into thermal energy.
