Compliant quasi-zero-stiffness isolator for low-frequency torsional vibration isolation

Chen Zhang et al.

Summary: The study proposes a compliant quasi-zero-stiffness (CQZS) isolator to isolate low-frequency torsional vibrations in the shaft system. The configuration of the CQZS isolator is devised using a compliant mechanism, and its stiffness characteristics are deduced and verified analytically and numerically. A dynamic model of the shaft system integrated with the CQZS isolator is established, and theoretical analysis is conducted using the harmonic balance method. Experimental results confirm the effectiveness of the CQZS isolator in achieving ideal torsional quasi-zero-stiffness characteristics and low-frequency torsional vibration isolation. The proposed CQZS isolator is more compact, lightweight, and easier to manufacture than conventional isolators.

Summary: This study develops a modified harmonic balance method (HBM) and applies it to analyze the vibration isolation performance of a geometrically nonlinear isolation system under high levels of excitation. The results show that the geometrically nonlinear stiffness (GNS) and geometrically nonlinear damping (GND) significantly affect the high-order harmonic components of the amplitude-frequency response and force transmissibility.

A non-smooth quasi-zero-stiffness isolator with displacement constraints

Rong Zeng et al.

Summary: This paper designs a double-layer quasi-zero-stiffness (QZS) vibration isolator with displacement constraints to reduce large-amplitude vibration. The mechanical model of the isolator is established based on Hertz's contact model (DLQZS-HCM) and the vibration isolation performance is examined theoretically using the incremental harmonic balance method. The results show that the DLQZS-HCM isolator performs better than double-layer linear isolator (DLL) and double-layer QZS isolator (DLQZS) in extending the frequency range of vibration isolation and decreasing peak transmissibility under large-amplitude excitation. Feedback control is also applied to further enhance the isolation performance at low-frequency levels.
