Geometric Structures Induced by Deformations of the Legendre Transform

Pablo A. Morales et al.

Summary: The recent discovery of a link between generalized Legendre transforms and non-dually flat statistical manifolds reveals the fundamental reason for the prevalence of Renyi's divergence and entropy in various physical phenomena. However, the nature of this relationship and its implications for physical systems are still not well-understood. This study sheds new light on the Legendre transform by exploring its deformation through symplectic geometry and complexification, providing a unified and principled understanding of physical systems that are not well-described by traditional information-theoretic quantities.

Renyi Entropy and Free Energy

John C. Baez

Summary: The Renyi entropy is a generalization of entropy that depends on the parameter q and is closely related to free energy. When a system is in thermal equilibrium and the temperature changes, the Renyi entropy can be expressed as the derivative of the system's free energy with respect to temperature.

Calibration Invariance of the MaxEnt Distribution in the Maximum Entropy Principle

Jan Korbel

Summary: The principle of maximum entropy involves two steps: finding the distribution that maximizes entropy under given constraints, and calculating the corresponding thermodynamic quantities. Different classes of entropies and constraints for a given MaxEnt distribution can lead to the same distribution but generally different thermodynamics. Two simple classes of transformations that preserve the MaxEnt distributions have been studied.

Stochastic thermodynamics and fluctuation theorems for non-linear systems

Jan Korbel et al.

Summary: This study extends stochastic thermodynamics by relaxing the assumptions of linear Markovian dynamics and Boltzmann distribution for equilibrium. By reformulating the second law in terms of generalized entropy, thermodynamic consistency is maintained, and equations linking the non-linear master equation to generalized entropy are derived. The trajectory-level definitions of thermodynamic quantities are extended to apply even when the assumptions are relaxed, leading to extended versions of the Crooks fluctuation theorem and Jarzynski equality.

Generalization of the maximum entropy principle for curved statistical manifolds

Pablo A. Morales et al.

Summary: This paper revisits the foundations of the maximum entropy principle, showing how the geometry of curved statistical manifolds leads to a generalization of MEP based on Renyi entropy. It establishes a bridge between non-Euclidean geometry and MEP, setting a solid foundation for the applications of Renyi entropy and enabling novel methods for complex systems analysis.
