Optimization of pseudo-continuous arterial spin labeling using off-resonance compensation strategies at 7T

Gael Saib et al.

Summary: This study evaluated the effectiveness of different PCASL off-resonance correction methods at 7T and measured labeling efficiency. Results showed that off-resonance correction improved perfusion signal uniformity throughout the brain, with an average increase in signal by a factor of 2.4-2.5. Correcting for off-resonance effects allowed for a maximum labeling efficiency close to 0.68.

Test-retest reliability of arterial spin labelling for cerebral blood flow in older adults with small vessel disease

Lauren R. Binnie et al.

Summary: Cerebral small vessel disease (SVD) is a common condition in older individuals and is associated with various brain vascular problems. This study used pseudo-continuous arterial spin labeling (pCASL) to measure cerebral blood flow (CBF) in older adults with SVD and found high test-retest reliability. The study also found that CBF decreases with increasing age and diastolic blood pressure.

Hybrid B1+-shimming and gradient adaptions for improved pseudo-continuous arterial spin labeling at 7 Tesla

Christian R. Meixner et al.

Summary: This study aimed to improve pseudo-continuous arterial spin labeling (pcASL) at 7T by using a hybrid B1+-shim, adapted gradient strength, and background suppression. The results showed that this combination has great potential for enhancing pcASL labeling at 7T under suboptimal B1+ conditions.

Optimization of pseudo-continuous arterial spin labeling at 7T with parallel transmission B1 shimming

Kai Wang et al.

Summary: By optimizing pCASL parameters and using different B1+ shimming modes such as indv-shim and univ-shim, robust perfusion imaging can be achieved at 7T. These methods significantly increase B1+ amplitude and labeling efficiency in both experiment and simulation, with all three pCASL sequences demonstrating good repeatability.

Advanced design of MRI inversion pulses for inhomogeneous field conditions by optimal control

Christina Graf et al.

Summary: This paper proposes a time-optimal control framework for the optimization of Delta B-0(-) and B-1(+)-robust inversion pulses, addressing the robustness requirements in high and ultra-high field MRI systems. The framework, with ensemble formulations and consideration of hardware and energy limitations, performs excellently for various optimization goals and is validated in experiments.

Optimization of adiabatic pulses for pulsed arterial spin labeling at 7 tesla: Comparison with pseudo-continuous arterial spin labeling

Kai Wang et al.

Summary: The purpose of this study was to optimize and evaluate adiabatic pulses for pulsed arterial spin labeling at ultra-high field 7 Tesla. Among the four pulses examined, the wideband uniform rate smooth truncation pulse achieved the best balance between labeling efficiency and residual tissue signal, showing significantly higher relative labeling efficiency compared to other sequences. The optimized pulse allowed for comparable perfusion signals as pseudo-continuous arterial spin labeling but with less than half the specific absorption rate.
