Comparison of C-C motif chemokine ligand 14 with other biomarkers for adverse kidney events after cardiac surgery

Christina Massoth et al.

Summary: The severity and duration of acute kidney injury affect outcomes. Patients with persistent acute kidney injury after cardiac surgery have higher major adverse kidney events. This study evaluated biomarkers, specifically C-C motif chemokine ligand 14, to predict persistent acute kidney injury and major adverse kidney events. The results showed that C-C motif chemokine ligand 14 was the most predictive biomarker for these outcomes.

Effect of Glutamine Administration After Cardiac Surgery on Kidney Damage in Patients at High Risk for Acute Kidney Injury: A Randomized Controlled Trial

Summary: This study aimed to clarify the effect of glutamine on kidney injury in high-risk cardiac surgery patients. The results showed that glutamine significantly decreased markers of kidney damage. However, further research is needed to confirm whether glutamine can reduce the occurrence of acute kidney injury after cardiac surgery.

Comparison between Cystatin C- and Creatinine-Based Estimated Glomerular Filtration Rate in the Follow-Up of Patients Recovering from a Stage-3 AKI in ICU

Fateme Nateghi Haredasht et al.

Summary: This study compared the ability of serum creatinine and cystatin C to estimate GFR for detecting CKD during AKI in the ICU, as well as their association with mortality. It was found that using Cystatin C for estimation resulted in a higher incidence of CKD and that eGFR (CysC) was a predictor of mortality, whereas eGFR (SCr) was not.

Summary: Kidney disease is a significant public health issue, with acute kidney injury (AKI) and chronic kidney disease well defined and classified. The term acute kidney diseases and disorders (AKD) has been introduced to address abnormalities that do not fit the traditional definitions, with a consensus workshop organized by KDIGO to refine definitions, classify AKD, propose management strategies, and prioritize research efforts.
