Influence of seed layer on the magnetoresistance properties in IrMn-based magnetic tunnel junctions

Weibin Chen et al.

Summary: Seed layers have a significant impact on the exchange bias field and tunneling magnetoresistance ratio of magnetic tunnel junctions (MTJs). The Ta/Ru seed layer is beneficial for developing MTJ-based spintronic devices with high sensitivity and high stability.

Antiferromagnetism: An efficient and controllable spin source

H. Bai et al.

Summary: This article provides a comprehensive review of recent progress in charge-spin conversion mediated by antiferromagnetic (AFM) spintronics. It summarizes several typical characterization techniques of charge-spin conversion and focuses on recent efforts to improve the efficiency and performance of charge-spin conversion in AFM/ferromagnet bilayers. It also reviews controllable spin current and multidirectional spin polarization generated by AFMs and discusses the prospects of AFM spin sources.

Time-resolved detection of spin-orbit torque switching of magnetization and exchange bias

Yuyan Wang et al.

Summary: This study investigates the time-resolved detection of spin-orbit torque switching of the magnetization and exchange bias in platinum/cobalt/iridium-manganese heterostructures. The results show that sub-nanosecond current pulses can partially switch the ferromagnets, interfacial antiferromagnetic spins, and exchange bias, allowing for flexible control of the switching probabilities at multiple levels. The findings also demonstrate that spin-orbit-torque-induced switching of the exchange bias can stabilize multilevelled magnetization switching within sub-nanosecond current pulses.

Manipulating the magnetic and transport properties by CuIr thickness in CoFeB/CuIr/IrMn multilayers

Mustafa Ozturk et al.

Summary: This study investigates the effects of Pt and CuIr spacer layer thicknesses on the magnetic and electrical properties of exchange biased multilayers. The results show unexpected behavior in terms of exchange bias, anisotropic magneto-resistance voltage and planar Hall effect voltage when using a CuIr spacer layer instead of a Pt spacer layer, which is explained by layer interdiffusion between CuIr and IrMn layers.

Origin of perpendicular magnetic anisotropy in amorphous thin films

Daniel Lordan et al.

Summary: This study focused on uncovering the origin of PMA in amorphous thin films deposited by magnetron sputtering, revealing that the change in the nature of anisotropy is related to the growth mechanism of the films and can be avoided by carefully selecting a deposition pressure regime. The emergence of PMA in amorphous thin films was found to be associated with the columnar growth of the films, which was previously not reported as a governing mechanism of perpendicular magnetisation.

The unusual double-shifted magnetization curves in an exchange-biased perpendicular Co/IrMn system

Yabin Niu et al.

Summary: An unusual double-shifted hysteresis loop was observed in a Co/IrMn system at room temperature, resulting in uneven exchange bias fields in positive and negative fields. The difference in exchange bias fields is related to the density of net spins in the antiferromagnetic layer that have pinned on the ferromagnetic layer. Additionally, the exchange bias field of this unique hysteresis loop can be adjusted by the annealing temperature.

Spin-Canting Effects in GMR Sensors With Wide Dynamic Field Range

Clemens Muehlenhoff et al.

Summary: Magnetoresistive sensors are widely used in low field environments, but Hall sensors dominate high field applications due to their wider linear range. Utilizing a perpendicularly magnetized reference system and in-plane free layer overcomes this disadvantage, allowing for investigation of spin-canting effects in interlayer exchange coupled perpendicular synthetic antiferromagnets (p-SAF).

Observation of current-induced switching in non-collinear antiferromagnetic IrMn3 by differential voltage measurements

Sevdenur Arpaci et al.

Summary: There is growing interest in using antiferromagnetic materials for memory devices, with recent studies showing complications in interpreting resistive switching signals generated by high current densities in antiferromagnetic/heavy metal bilayers. Arpaci et al have introduced an experimental protocol to distinguish between magnetic and nonmagnetic switching signals in such structures, showcasing their method in IrMn3/Pt devices. The researchers utilized a six-terminal double-cross device to demonstrate reversible switching in the presence of IrMn3, effectively eliminating any non-magnetic switching artifacts.
