Self-Assembly of Atomically Aligned Nanoparticle Superlattices from Pt-Fe3O4 Heterodimer Nanoparticles

Shengsong Yang et al.

Summary: This study demonstrates the self-assembly of heterodimers consisting of two conjoined nanoparticles into multicomponent superlattices with long-range atomic alignment between the different nanoparticles. The self-assembly process exhibits a two-stage mechanism, indicating the selective epitaxial growth of the smaller domain and specific size ratios of the heterodimer domains are required for atomic alignment.

Interisland-Distance-Mediated Growth of Centimeter-Scale Two- Dimensional Magnetic Fe3O4 Arrays with Unidirectional Domain Orientations

Peng Wang et al.

Summary: In this study, a chemical vapor deposition strategy mediated by interisland distance was designed to synthesize centimeter-scale atomically thin Fe3O4 arrays with unidirectional orientations on mica. The unidirectional alignment of Fe3O4 nanosheets was driven by a dual coupling-guided growth mechanism, where Fe3O4/mica interlayer interaction induced two preferred antiparallel orientations, and the interisland interaction of Fe3O4 broke the energy degeneracy. The study uncovered the room-temperature long-range ferrimagnetic order and thickness-tunable magnetic domain evolution in atomically thin Fe3O4.

Magnetoresistive Properties of Nanocomposites Based on Ferrite Nanoparticles and Polythiophene

Roma Wirecka et al.

Summary: In this study, six nanocomposites based on different magnetic nanoparticles and a conducting polymer, poly(3-hexylthiophene-2,5-diyl) (P3HT), were synthesized. The nanoparticles were coated with either squalene and dodecanoic acid or P3HT, and the cores of the nanoparticles were made of nickel ferrite, cobalt ferrite, or magnetite. The average diameters of all synthesized nanoparticles were below 10 nm, with varying magnetic saturation at 300 K. The impact of different magnetic fillers on the conducting properties and the influence of the shell on the final electromagnetic properties of the nanocomposite were explored.

Strain-Induced Magnetoelectric Coupling in Fe3O4/BaTiO3 Nanopillar Composites

Guohua Dong et al.

Summary: In this study, Fe3O4/BaTiO3 nanopillar composites were successfully constructed to achieve magnetoelectric coupling effect. Well-ordered BaTiO3 nanopillar arrays were prepared through template-assisted pulsed laser deposition, and the Fe3O4 layer was coated on BaTiO3 nanopillar arrays using atomic layer deposition. The research results showed a significant thermally driven magnetoelectric coupling coefficient near the phase transition of BaTiO3.

Enhancement of room-temperature magnetoresistance in polyvinyl acetate encapsulated Fe3O4 nanoparticles

Subir Roy et al.

Summary: A facile method of enhancing the magnetoresistance (MR) of magnetite (Fe3O4) nanoparticles assemblies by encapsulating them with polyvinyl acetate (PVAc) is reported. Encapsulation with PVAc reduces the resistivity and improves the magnetoresistance of the film. This is mainly attributed to the reassembly of nanoparticles and reduced interparticle distances, which reduces the tunnelling barrier for charge transport.

Hydrophilization of magnetic nanoparticles with an amphiphilic polymer revisited: Roles of nanoparticle capping density and polymer structure

Gabriel C. Lavorato et al.

Summary: This paper thoroughly discusses key aspects of the formation of water-soluble NP-PMAO assemblies from oleate-capped iron oxide NPs, revealing the importance of capping packing density in the assembly mechanism. The study shows that intermolecular structures typical of comb polymers act as templates in the assembly process, and the magnetic properties are modulated by the polymer loading.

Summary: The study demonstrates that defects in the SiO2 layer induce a change in the magneto resistance (MR) sign, resulting in an anomalous positive MR exceeding 17% at room temperature in heterostructures with a 19 nm thick magnetite layer at 80 kOe, while conventional negative MR response is obtained for thicker films.
