Heterojunction interface editing in Co/NiCoP nanospheres by oxygen atoms decoration for synergistic accelerating hydrogen and oxygen evolution electrocatalysis

Yan Lin et al.

Summary: The controllable designing of heterojunction nanostructures is essential for accelerating the kinetics of hydrogen and oxygen evolution reactions (HER/OER). In this study, a protocol of heterojunction interface editing (HIE) strategy by oxygen atoms decoration was proposed, leading to enhanced electrocatalytic performances of HER and OER. The as-constructed O-Co/NiCoP nanospheres showed excellent electrocatalytic activity with high stability, providing a new perspective on catalyst design for energy conversion systems.

Proximity Electronic Effect of Ni/Co Diatomic Sites for Synergistic Promotion of Electrocatalytic Oxygen Reduction and Hydrogen Evolution

Min Li et al.

Summary: This study proposes a new method to enhance the ORR and HER activity by anchoring Ni/Co DASs on N-C substrate to achieve the proximity electronic effect (PEE). Experimental results show that the NiCo DASs/N-C catalyst exhibits superior ORR and HER activity, which is mainly attributed to the modulation effect of the Ni-N-4 site. Theoretical calculations further reveal that the Ni-N-4 site can effectively adjust the electronic localization of the Co-N-4 site, thereby promoting the ORR and HER reactions.

Isolated Electron Trap-Induced Charge Accumulation for Efficient Photocatalytic Hydrogen Production

Wenhuan Huang et al.

Summary: The solar-driven evolution of hydrogen from water using particulate photocatalysts is a promising method for achieving a stable supply of renewable energy. However, the efficiency of photocatalytic water splitting is low due to sluggish electron-hole pair separation kinetics. In this study, highly oxidized Mo species incorporated into Cd0.5Zn0.5S nanorods exhibit significantly enhanced photocatalytic efficiency through inhibited electron-hole recombination.

Interfacial Water Activation by Single-Atom Co-N3 Sites Coupled with Encapsulated Co Nanocrystals for Accelerating Electrocatalytic Hydrogen Evolution

Minmin Wang et al.

Summary: This research proposes an efficient doping-adsorption-pyrolysis strategy to construct a robust coupling catalyst composed of single-atom Co-N-3 sites and Co nanocrystals, which activates the interfacial water to accelerate electrocatalytic hydrogen evolution reaction (HER). The Co-N-3 sites inhibit the transport of H2O*/OH*, while the Co NCs increase the available H2O*, accelerating the HER process.

In Situ/Operando Capturing Unusual Ir6+ Facilitating Ultrafast Electrocatalytic Water Oxidation

Lili Li et al.

Summary: This study investigates the catalytic mechanism of ordered OER active Co and Ir ions in Sr2CoIrO6-δ, achieving unprecedented low overpotential and high catalytic performance. Experimental results show gradual conversion of Ir4+ ions to Ir5+/6+ and part of Co3+ ions to Co4+, while density functional theory calculations reveal the ordered Co-O-Ir network as the origin of ultrahigh OER activity. These findings open a promising pathway to overcome the sluggish kinetics of OER bottleneck for water splitting by proper arrangements of multi-active sites in the catalyst.
