Tilted spin current generated by the collinear antiferromagnet ruthenium dioxide

Arnab Bose et al.

Summary: Symmetry plays a central role in determining the polarization of spin currents induced by electric fields. In this study, an out-of-plane damping-like torque is shown to be generated in RuO2/permalloy devices when the Neel vector of the collinear antiferromagnet RuO2 is canted relative to the sample plane. By measuring characteristic changes in the electric-field-induced torque vector, it is found that RuO2 generates a spin current with a well-defined tilted spin orientation parallel to the Neel vector. This antiferromagnetic spin Hall effect has distinct symmetries from other mechanisms of spin-current generation reported in antiferromagnetic and ferromagnetic materials.

Out-of-plane ferromagnetism in two-dimensional 1T-RhO2

Hyungwoo Lee et al.

Summary: Using combined theoretical approaches, the structural, electronic, and magnetic properties of 2D RhO2 were studied. It was found that the monolayer 1T-RhO2 exhibits a ferromagnetic metallic phase with out-of-plane magnetization. Spin-orbit coupling interaction and mechanical tensile strain were identified as factors affecting magnetic anisotropy energy.

Tunable room-temperature ferromagnetism in Co-doped two-dimensional van der Waals ZnO

Rui Chen et al.

Summary: The authors have overcome the limitation of vdWs materials being magnetic only at low temperature, by observing room temperature magnetic ordering in Cobalt doped graphene-like Zinc-Oxide. Through various experimental techniques, they have demonstrated clear evidence of spontaneous magnetization in this new material system at room temperature and above, opening up a new path to 2D ferromagnetism with exceptional tunability and robustness.
