Meta-analysis of Controlled Oral Word Association Test (COWAT) FAS performance in amnestic mild cognitive impairment and cognitively unimpaired older adults

Kacie Bauer et al.

Summary: Findings from several studies suggest that older adults with amnestic mild cognitive impairment (aMCI) perform worse on phonemic fluency tasks, indicating deficits in nonmemory domains. A meta-analysis of 18 studies found that aMCI individuals had significantly lower phonemic fluency performance compared to cognitively unimpaired (CU) individuals. These results highlight the importance of using phonemic fluency tasks in assessing and intervening in aMCI.

The effect of lesion filling on brain network analysis in multiple sclerosis using structural magnetic resonance imaging

Chris W. J. van der Weijden et al.

Summary: Graph theoretical network analysis can be used to assess subtle changes in brain networks in multiple sclerosis (MS) patients. This study found that lesion filling can increase the detection rate of network alterations in MS, but it also introduces significant artifacts, suggesting that caution should be applied.

Predicting conversion to multiple sclerosis by assessing cognitive impairment in radiologically isolated syndrome

Angela Domingo-Santos et al.

Summary: In a study of patients with radiologically isolated syndrome (RIS), it was found that 35.3% of patients exhibited cognitive impairment, with lower brain and gray matter volumes compared to healthy controls. After a median follow-up period of 4.5 years, the cognitively impaired RIS subgroup showed a higher conversion rate to multiple sclerosis (MS), suggesting that cognitive impairment may be an independent risk factor for conversion to MS.
