Automatic Segmentation of Organs-at-Risk in Thoracic Computed Tomography Images Using Ensembled U-Net InceptionV3 Model

Malvika Ashok et al.

Summary: The objective of this article is to automatically segment organs at risk (OARs) for thoracic radiology in computed tomography (CT) scan images. The proposed model achieved precise accuracy for OARs segmentation with an average dice coefficient of 0.9413, Hausdorff value of 0.1838, sensitivity of 0.9783, and specificity of 0.9895 on the Test dataset. An ensembled U-Net InceptionV3 model has been proposed, improving the segmentation results compared with the state-of-the-art techniques such as U-Net, ResNet, Vgg16, etc.

Automatic detection of coronavirus disease (COVID-19) using X-ray images and deep convolutional neural networks

Ali Narin et al.

Summary: The 2019 novel coronavirus disease has rapidly spread worldwide, with nearly 101,917,147 cases reported, leading to a limited availability of COVID-19 test kits in hospitals. To address this, an automatic detection system using pre-trained convolutional neural network-based models was proposed for detecting coronavirus pneumonia-infected patients. Among the five models tested, ResNet50 demonstrated the highest accuracy in classifying COVID-19 patients from X-ray images.

Three-stage segmentation of lung region from CT images using deep neural networks

Michael Osadebey et al.

Summary: This research aims to improve the diagnostic accuracy of respiratory diseases by implementing each of the three stages of traditional methods using deep learning methods on five different configurations of training data. By utilizing ground truths from 3DIRCAD and ILD databases, along with data augmentation from LIDC-IDRI image collection and a realistic phantom, the proposed method achieved Dice-scores ranging from 0.76 to 0.95. The study emphasizes the importance of efficient and clinically relevant automated segmentation methods for the diagnosis of respiratory diseases, highlighting the potential benefits of deep learning models in improving segmentation accuracy and clinical relevance.
