The Multi-band Survey Telescope at Zhongshan Station, Antarctica

Chao Chen et al.

Summary: The Antarctic Plateau is considered to be the best ground-based astronomical site on Earth. Multi-band Survey Telescope (MST) is the first multicolour simultaneous survey telescope in Antarctica, equipped with a Newtonian telescope structure, a new alignment scheme, a defrosting ITO window, and a high-precision equatorial mount. Since March 2022, MST has been carrying out observation normally in Zhongshan Station, providing new experience for the follow-up design and installation of Antarctic telescopes.

Tuning the Legacy Survey of Space and Time (LSST) Observing Strategy for Solar System Science

Megan E. Schwamb et al.

Summary: The Vera C. Rubin Observatory is preparing for the Legacy Survey of Space and Time (LSST) in 2025, aiming to transform our understanding of the solar system by discovering and monitoring over five million small bodies. The LSST survey strategy plays a crucial role in the discovery and characterization of solar system minor planets and passing interstellar objects. To optimize the LSST survey strategy, a series of operation simulations have been conducted to explore different observing parameters and priorities. The impact of these simulated LSST observing strategies on studying the solar system's small body reservoirs has been examined, highlighting the importance of maximizing LSST solar system science.

GPU-based framework for detecting small Solar system bodies in targeted exoplanet surveys

A. Y. Burdanov et al.

Summary: Small solar system bodies, as pristine remnants of solar system formation, offer valuable insights for planetary science and help assess the threat of near-Earth asteroids. By utilizing a GPU-based synthetic tracking algorithm, this study introduces a framework to enhance the scientific return of an exoplanet transit-search survey by detecting small bodies in its daily and archival data. Proving the concept, the analysis of SPECULOOS survey data identified 400 known objects and 43 potentially new small bodies, reaching a limiting magnitude for unknown objects and a retrieval rate of 80% for objects with specific magnitudes.

The Population of Interstellar Objects Detectable with the LSST and Accessible for In Situ Rendezvous with Various Mission Designs

Devin J. Hoover et al.

Summary: The recently discovered population of interstellar objects provides the opportunity to study material from extrasolar planetary and stellar systems. The forthcoming Vera C. Rubin Observatory Legacy Survey of Space and Time (LSST) will enhance the capabilities to detect these objects compared to current observational facilities. By generating a synthetic population of 'Oumuamua-like objects and analyzing their galactic kinematics, the distribution of detectable objects with the LSST is identified. Additionally, the optimal sky location for future interstellar object searches is determined.

Observing exoplanets from Antarctica in two colours: Set-up and operation of ASTEP

Francois-Xavier Schmider et al.

Summary: This paper describes the performance and laboratory tests of a new two-color simultaneous visible photometry camera box installed on the ASTEP telescope. The observational data shows improved performance of the new camera box, with an increased signal-to-noise ratio and photon count. The ASTEP+ telescope equipped with the new focal box will be able to effectively track and characterize a large number of exoplanetary transits in the coming years.

Observation Scheduling and Automatic Data Reduction for the Antarctic telescope, ASTEP

Georgina Dransfield et al.

Summary: The possibility of observing transiting exoplanets from Dome C in Antarctica offers unique advantages, but also comes with limitations. The current state of operations of the ASTEP+ telescope at Concordia Station is presented, along with improvements in data analysis and transfer. The Python and web-based systems used for transit observation scheduling are also introduced.

Small Solar System objects on highly inclined orbits: Surface colours and lifetimes

T. Hromakina et al.

Summary: This study investigates the surface properties and orbital dynamics of six high-inclination objects through BVRI photometric observations and numerical simulations. The colors of these objects are similar to moderately red TNOs and grey Centaurs, and no ultra-red material was found on their surfaces. Additionally, one comet shows complex morphology with structures possibly related to ejected particles from the nucleus.

TOI-1231 b: A Temperate, Neptune-sized Planet Transiting the Nearby M3 Dwarf NLTT 24399

Jennifer A. Burt et al.

Summary: The discovery of a temperate, Neptune-sized exoplanet orbiting the M3V star TOI-1231 has been reported in this study. The newly discovered planet, with a radius of 3.65R circle plus M (circle plus) and an equilibrium temperature of 330K, presents a cool and exciting target for atmospheric studies. Additionally, future observations may allow for comparative planetology efforts and investigation of low-velocity hydrogen atoms escaping the planet.
