ARIADNE: measuring accurate and precise stellar parameters through SED fitting

PSR J0952-0607: The Fastest and Heaviest Known Galactic Neutron Star

Summary: We describe the Keck-telescope spectrophotometry and imaging of the companion of the black widow pulsar PSR J0952-0607. Despite the challenges posed by its faintness at minimum brightness, we were able to measure multicolor light curves and obtain radial velocities over half of the orbit. Our model fits indicate the system inclination and the mass of the pulsar, which is the largest well-measured mass found to date. This study is important for understanding the mass evolution of neutron stars.

Incremental Fermi Large Area Telescope Fourth Source Catalog

Formation of black widows through ultracompact X-ray binaries with He star companions

A New Flaring Black Widow Candidate and Demographics of Black Widow Millisecond Pulsars in the Galactic Field

Summary: We have discovered a new optical/X-ray source that is likely associated with the Fermi gamma-ray source 4FGL J1408.6-2917. It is believed to be a new black widow millisecond pulsar binary based on its high-amplitude periodic optical variability, large spectroscopic radial-velocity semiamplitude, evidence for optical emission lines and flaring, and X-ray properties. Black widows and redbacks together dominate the census of the fastest spinning field millisecond pulsars in binaries with known companion types, accounting for over 80% of systems with a spin period less than 2 ms. Neutron star masses in black widows are generally larger than the canonical 1.4 M (circle dot), with many of the highest-mass neutron stars claimed to date being black widows with masses greater than or similar to 2.1 M (circle dot).
