Rotational modulation in A and F stars: magnetic stellar spots or convective core rotation?

Andreea Henriksen et al.

Summary: The Kepler mission discovered various types of stellar variability, including magnetic activity and oscillations. In this study, the researchers analyzed the periodic signal in 162 intermediate-mass stars, known as Rossby modes and rotational modulation. They investigated whether the rotational modulation was caused by magnetic spots or by Overstable Convective modes. The results suggest that the magnetic spots scenario is more likely to explain the observed feature, but further investigation and observations are needed to confirm this.

Stellar rotation rates in Kepler eccentric (heartbeat) binaries obtained from r-mode signatures

Hideyuki Saio et al.

Summary: In this paper, the authors investigate the stellar rotation periods in 20 eccentric binaries with r-mode signatures. They find that the majority of the rotation periods are comparable to pseudo-synchronous periods, which supports the pseudo-synchronisation theory developed by Hut.

Rotation of the convective core in γ Dor stars measured by dips in period spacings of g modes coupled with inertial modes

Hideyuki Saio et al.

Summary: The relation of period spacing versus period of dipole prograde g modes can be used to measure rotation rates in rapidly rotating gamma Dor and slowly pulsating B stars. By fitting the observed dips in period, the differential rotation of the convective core from the surrounding g-mode cavity can be inferred.

Summary: The study analyzed Kepler data of 132,921 main-sequence F and G stars and late subgiant stars, identifying rotation-period candidates and selecting reliable rotation periods using a machine-learning algorithm. The research also found that hotter stars generally rotate faster and that the photometric activity of main-sequence G stars varies with increasing effective temperature.

Overstable convective modes in rotating early-type stars

Umin Lee

Summary: The study focuses on overstable convective (OsC) modes in stars, finding that as rotation frequency increases, OsC modes tend towards stabilization and excite envelope g modes, aiding stellar rotation and maintaining low core rotation frequency.

HERMES spectroscopy of normal A and Am stars

Otto Trust et al.

Summary: A spectroscopic study was conducted on a sample of 'hump and spike' stars in the nominal Kepler field, determining their spectral types, fundamental parameters, and individual chemical abundances. The study led to the reclassification of certain stars based on their spectral classification and chemical abundance pattern.
