Modeling and optimization of bio-2-hexanol production from biomass derived dimethylfuran using Pt/K3PW12O40 by response surface methodology

Magdy Sherbi et al.

Summary: The research focused on the selective hydrogenation of dimethylfuran (DMF) using a bifunctional catalyst system composed of platinum supported on a Keggin-polyoxometalate to maximize the yield of 2-hexanol, a model compound for bio-derived furans. Response surface methodology (RSM) was used to build predictive models capable of estimating product yields, with statistical and experimental confirmation of excellent agreement between predictions and data.

Added-Value Chemicals from Lignin Oxidation

Carina A. Esteves Costa et al.

Summary: Lignin, the second most abundant component in lignocellulosic biomass, has attracted significant attention for valorization strategies due to its aromatic structure. Oxidative depolymerization can convert lignin into added-value compounds, but challenges remain in enhancing reactivity and selectivity. Recent research has focused on producing compounds like vanillin and syringaldehyde through oxidative depolymerization of lignin.

Oxidative desulfurization of dibenzothiophene by magnetically recoverable polyoxometalate-based nanocatalyst: Optimization by response surface methodology

Vahid Mahmoudi et al.

Summary: This research investigated a new core-shell structured nanocatalyst prepared by surface modification of magnetic silica nanoparticles with Keplerate nano-porous molybdenum oxide-based polyoxometalate, which showed high catalytic activity in oxidative desulfurization reactions. By optimizing reaction conditions and experimental design, it was found that temperature had the most significant impact on the process efficiency. The catalyst exhibited excellent sulfur removal efficiency under optimal conditions, with no loss of activity after multiple test runs and successful recovery using a magnet.
