Estimated Burden of Stroke in China in 2020

Wen-Jun Tu et al.

Summary: This study investigated the prevalence, incidence, and mortality rate of stroke in China in 2020 using a nationally representative sample. The results showed that the overall burden of stroke in mainland China was 2.6%, with higher prevalence in urban areas and higher incidence and mortality rates in rural areas. These findings highlight the need for an improved stroke prevention strategy in China.

China stroke surveillance report 2021

Wen-Jun Tu et al.

Summary: Since 2015, stroke has become the leading cause of death and disability in China, with approximately 17.8 million adults experiencing a stroke in 2020. The prevalence of risk factors such as diabetes, hypertension, and hyperlipidemia is increasing, further contributing to the burden of stroke. The data provided in this study are valuable for guiding future stroke prevention and treatment efforts in China.

Poor sleep quality, vitamin D deficiency and depression in the stroke population: A cohort study

Weilei He et al.

Summary: The aim of this study was to explore the impact of poor sleep quality and vitamin D status on post-stroke depression (PSD). The results showed that the combination of poor sleep quality and vitamin D deficiency is associated with a substantially increased risk of PSD.

Plasma Hsp90 levels in patients with systemic sclerosis and relation to lung and skin involvement: a cross-sectional and longitudinal study

Hana Storkanova et al.

Summary: According to the study, plasma levels of Hsp90 are increased in patients with systemic sclerosis compared to healthy controls, and are associated with increased inflammatory activity, worsened lung function, and extent of skin involvement in patients with diffuse cutaneous systemic sclerosis. In patients with systemic sclerosis-associated interstitial lung disease treated with cyclophosphamide, baseline Hsp90 levels can predict changes in DLCO over 12 months of therapy.

Thoracic Aortic Calcium for the Prediction of Stroke Mortality (from the Coronary Artery Calcium Consortium)

Olufunmilayo H. Obisesan et al.

Summary: Thoracic aortic calcium (TAC) is independently associated with stroke mortality, regardless of coronary artery calcium (CAC) and traditional risk factors, especially in women. The presence of TAC appears to be an independent risk marker for stroke mortality.

Serum calcium and long-term outcome after ischemic stroke: Results from the China National stroke registry III

Jun-Fang Zhang et al.

Summary: The study found that serum calcium levels in patients with acute ischemic stroke and transient ischemic attack were related to outcomes at 1-year follow-up, with high serum calcium levels associated with an increased risk of all-cause mortality. The findings suggest that serum calcium may serve as a potential prognostic biomarker and therapeutic target for ischemic stroke.
