Enteric Glial Cells in Immunological Disorders of the Gut

Chang Liu et al.

Summary: Enteric glial cells (EGCs) play important roles in the gastrointestinal tract by supporting the survival and functions of enteric nervous system (ENS) neurons, and potentially participating in the immune homeostasis of the gut. This review article summarizes the potential involvement of EGCs in immunological disorders such as inflammatory bowel disease, celiac disease, and autoimmune enteropathy, and highlights key questions for future research on the immunological aspects of EGCs.

miRNAs Can Affect Intestinal Epithelial Barrier in Inflammatory Bowel Disease

Xiangjun Xiao et al.

Summary: This review provides a detailed overview of the role of micro-ribonucleic acids (miRNAs) in the intestinal epithelial barrier of inflammatory bowel disease (IBD), including their regulation of inflammation, immunity, and microorganisms. The findings of this review contribute to the understanding of the interaction between miRNAs and the intestinal epithelial barrier in IBD and provide a theoretical reference for future prevention and treatment of IBD.

Ji-Chuan decoction ameliorates slow transit constipation via regulation of intestinal glial cell apoptosis

Xiu-Min Wang et al.

Summary: This study explores the integrated regulatory pattern of Ji-Chuan decoction (JCD) against slow transit constipation (STC) through hyphenated techniques from metabolism, network pharmacology, and molecular methods. The results show that JCD promotes intestinal motility, increases the levels of acetylcholine, and reduces intestinal inflammation in STC mice. Metabolomics analysis reveals that JCD restores metabolic dysfunction and affects taurine and hypotaurine metabolism. Network pharmacology and molecular experiments demonstrate that JCD regulates AKT protein expression, with quercetin as the core component. Apoptosis is identified as an important mechanism by which JCD relieves constipation. Further experiments show that JCD reduces enteric glial cell apoptosis.

Regulation of GFAP Expression

Michael Brenner et al.

Summary: The expression of the GFAP gene is crucial in astrocyte development and reactive gliosis, and its regulation involves various mechanisms such as transcription factors, DNA and histone methylation, and microRNAs. The complexity of regulating GFAP expression suggests potential variations in its function among different astrocyte subtypes and in response to perturbations.
