Oncogenic K-Ras suppresses global miRNA function

Bing Shui et al.

Summary: K-RasG12D mutation promotes global suppression of miRNA activity, resulting in the upregulation of hundreds of targets. The suppression is achieved by inhibiting the expression of Csnk1a1 and Csnk2a1, which leads to hypo-phosphorylation of Ago2 and increased binding to mRNA, ultimately reducing miRNA target repression.

Inducible and reversible inhibition of miRNA-mediated gene repression in vivo

Gaspare La Rocca et al.

Summary: The study found that miRNAs play an essential role in maintaining the homeostasis of the heart and skeletal muscle; in most other organs, miRNA function is largely dispensable; even in tissues where it is not required for homeostasis, such as the intestine and hematopoietic system, miRNA activity can become essential during regeneration following acute injury.
