circIPO7 dissociates caprin-1 from ribosomes and inhibits gastric cancer cell proliferation by suppressing EGFR and mTOR

Jing Liu et al.

Summary: Circular RNA (circRNA) is a unique RNA molecule with a closed loop structure. In gastric cancer patients, circIPO7 is downregulated and its overexpression inhibits cancer cell proliferation by blocking the interaction between caprin-1 and G3BP1, leading to the translational inhibition of EGFR and mTOR through the PI3K/AKT/mTOR pathway.

Plasma exosomal hsa_circ_0079439 as a novel biomarker for early detection of gastric cancer

Xiao Li et al.

Summary: This study found that the expression levels of plasma exosomal circRNA are significantly increased in gastric cancer patients and can distinguish between early and advanced gastric cancer patients. Therefore, plasma exosomal circRNA may be a potential biomarker for the diagnosis of gastric cancer in both the early and late stages.

CircPDIA4 Induces Gastric Cancer Progression by Promoting ERK1/2 Activation and Enhancing Biogenesis of Oncogenic circRNAs

Yue Shen et al.

Summary: We identified circPDIA4 as an oncogenic circRNA in gastric cancer. Clinically, circPDIA4 was upregulated in malignant tissues and associated with poor survival. Further research revealed that circPDIA4 functions through dual mechanisms by regulating oncogenic circRNA biogenesis and increasing MAPK activity.

Plasma circN4BP2L2 is a promising novel diagnostic biomarker for epithelial ovarian cancer

Li Ning et al.

Summary: This study found that plasma circN4BP2L2 is significantly downregulated in epithelial ovarian cancer (EOC) patients and is associated with tumor progression. CircN4BP2L2 shows good diagnostic value in detecting EOC. CircN4BP2L2 might serve as a promising novel diagnostic biomarker for EOC patients, especially in early stage cases.

Diagnostic efficacy of circular RNAs as noninvasive, liquid biopsy biomarkers for early detection of gastric cancer

Souvick Roy et al.

Summary: This study developed a non-invasive liquid biopsy method for early detection of gastric cancer by using circular RNAs (circRNAs) as biomarkers. The researchers identified a panel of 8 circRNAs that could reliably distinguish gastric cancer patients from non-disease controls, even in early-stage patients. The decreased expression of circRNAs in serum samples suggested their tumor specificity.

Circular RNA hsa_circ_0006091 as a novel biomarker for hepatocellular carcinoma

Yongwei Zhang et al.

Summary: In this study, circRNAs were found to be differentially expressed in liver cancer tissues, with hsa_circ_0006091 showing elevated expression. The target gene of hsa_circ_0006091, RGS12, was also found to be upregulated in liver cancer tissues. ROC curve analysis demonstrated that hsa_circ_0006091, in combination with AFP and RGS12, can serve as a molecular marker for the diagnosis of hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC).

Hsa_circ_0000437 promotes pathogenesis of gastric cancer and lymph node metastasis

Xianjuan Shen et al.

Summary: The circRNA hsa_circ_0000437 was found to play a significant role in gastric cancer progression, promoting cell proliferation, migration, invasion, and apoptosis resistance. It was also found to induce lymph node metastasis through the HSPA2-ERK signaling pathway. Clinical data showed that hsa_circ_0000437 was enriched in the serum of gastric cancer patients and was associated with lymph node metastasis. These findings suggest that hsa_circ_0000437 may serve as a potential biomarker for lymph node metastasis in gastric cancer patients.

As a biomarker for gastric cancer, circPTPN22 regulates the progression of gastric cancer through the EMT pathway

Shuo Ma et al.

Summary: CircPTPN22 is upregulated in gastric cancer tissues, cells, and plasma, and positively correlated with metastasis. It can serve as a diagnostic marker and predict patient prognosis. CircPTPN22 inhibits cell proliferation and metastasis through competitive binding of miRNAs to regulate the EMT pathway.

Global cancer statistics 2020: GLOBOCAN estimates of incidence and mortality worldwide for 36 cancers in 185 countries

Hyuna Sung et al.

Summary: The global cancer burden in 2020 saw an estimated 19.3 million new cancer cases and almost 10.0 million cancer deaths. Female breast cancer surpassed lung cancer as the most commonly diagnosed cancer, while lung cancer remained the leading cause of cancer death. These trends are expected to rise in 2040, with transitioning countries experiencing a larger increase compared to transitioned countries due to demographic changes and risk factors associated with globalization and a growing economy. Efforts to improve cancer prevention measures and provision of cancer care in transitioning countries will be crucial for global cancer control.

CircHAS2 promotes the proliferation, migration, and invasion of gastric cancer cells by regulating PPM1E mediated by hsa-miR-944

Shuo Ma et al.

Summary: The specific circRNA circHAS2 was upregulated in gastric cancer tissues and cells, and was positively correlated with tumor metastasis. Knockdown of circHAS2 or addition of hsa-miR-944 mimics inhibited proliferation, migration, and invasion of GC cells. The circHAS2/hsa-miR-944/PPM1E axis may be involved in the progression of GC, suggesting circHAS2 as a potential biomarker and therapeutic target for GC.
