Association of VEGF-A and KDR polymorphisms with the development of schizophrenia

Hana Saoud et al.

Summary: This study investigates the association between polymorphisms in VEGF-A and KDR genes and susceptibility to schizophrenia in a Tunisian cohort. The results show that several polymorphisms are significantly associated with schizophrenia risk. Stratified analysis reveals specific associations with clinical subtypes. These findings suggest that genetic variations in VEGF-A and KDR genes may play a role in the development and severity of schizophrenia.

Coronary Artery Disease Genetics Enlightened by Genome-Wide Association Studies

Thorsten Kessler et al.

Summary: Many cardiovascular diseases have a strong genetic component, with large-scale genetic studies identifying genomic loci that influence the risk of specific diseases. While most candidate genes at these loci are not traditionally associated with disease risk factors, experimental research is uncovering novel and unexpected mechanisms. Genome-wide association studies have already led to the development of new treatments, particularly in lipid metabolism. Additionally, polygenic risk scores may have clinical utility in risk prediction and personalized treatment, especially in lipid metabolism.
