COMPARISON OF REAL-TIME PCR, CONVENTIONAL PCR AND RT-LAMP FOR THE DETECTION OF COCONUT CADANG-CADANG VIROID VARIANT IN OIL PALM

Nur Diyana Roslan et al.

Summary: This study developed a real-time PCR method for the detection of oil palm Coconut Cadang-cadang Viroid (CCCVd) and compared its sensitivity and reliability with RT-LAMP and conventional PCR. The results showed that real-time PCR had higher sensitivity and reliability compared to the other two techniques, and the primers designed for real-time PCR were specific for detecting CCCVd variants.

Virus and Viroid-Derived Small RNAs as Modulators of Host Gene Expression: Molecular Insights Into Pathogenesis

S. V. Ramesh et al.

Summary: Virus-derived siRNAs play a crucial role in plant defense response, while pathogen infection can lead to the production of sRNAs targeting host mRNAs and causing disease symptoms. These interactions between pathogen-derived sRNAs and host mRNAs provide insights into the molecular mechanisms of pathogenesis.

Progress in 50 years of viroid research-Molecular structure, pathogenicity, and host adaptation

Teruo Sano

Summary: Viroids are non-encapsidated, single-stranded, circular RNAs that replicate autonomously in host cells, invading and adapting to new environments. They interact with various host factors to exert different levels of pathogenicity, revealing a molecular mechanism of pathogenicity more complex than initially thought.
