Pasteurized Akkermansia muciniphila Ameliorate the LPS-Induced Intestinal Barrier Dysfunction via Modulating AMPK and NF-κB through TLR2 in Caco-2 Cells

Mengxuan Shi et al.

Summary: Akkermansia muciniphila is known for its beneficial effects on reducing inflammation and improving intestinal barrier function. In this study, it was demonstrated that both live and pasteurized A. muciniphila can protect against barrier dysfunction in Caco-2 intestinal epithelial cells induced by lipopolysaccharide (LPS). The mechanism behind this probiotic effect was found to involve the activation of AMP-activated protein kinase (AMPK) and inhibition of Nuclear Factor-Kappa B (NF-kappa B) through the stimulation of Toll-like receptor 2 (TLR2).

In Peripheral Blood Mononuclear Cells Helicobacter pylori Induces the Secretion of Soluble and Exosomal Cytokines Related to Carcinogenesis

Josefina Atrisco-Morales et al.

Summary: This study analyzed the cytokine profile secreted by H. pylori-infected human peripheral blood mononuclear cells (PBMCs) and established a network of interaction between cytokines and cellular proteins. The results showed that H. pylori infection significantly increased the secretion of IL-1 beta, IL-6, TNF-alpha, IL-10, IL-17A, IL-21, and IL-22 in both soluble and exosomal forms. The protein-protein interaction network indicated that these cytokines interact with proteins involved in signaling pathways related to carcinogenesis. Cytokine-loaded exosomes may play a role in inflammation-related extragastrointestinal diseases.

The interplay between Helicobacter pylori and the gut microbiota: An emerging driver influencing the immune system homeostasis and gastric carcinogenesis

Farzaneh Fakharian et al.

Summary: The gut microbiota plays a critical role in maintaining human health. Helicobacter pylori and antibiotic treatment have significant effects on the composition of the gut microbiota. H. pylori is essential for the early stages of gastric carcinogenesis, while a non-H. pylori microbiota may be present in later stages. The gut microbiota can produce beneficial substances that modulate inflammation and tumorigenesis pathways.

Mass eradication of Helicobacter pylori to reduce gastric cancer incidence and mortality: a long-term cohort study on Matsu Islands

Tsung-Hsien Chiang et al.

Summary: Mass eradication of H. pylori infection in a high-risk Taiwanese population significantly reduced gastric cancer incidence and showed potential for reducing mortality, with no significant changes in other digestive tract cancers or antibiotic resistance rates of H. pylori. Long-term follow-up may lead to further reductions in mortality rates.

Probiotics as the live microscopic fighters against Helicobacter pylori gastric infections

Masoud Keikha et al.

Summary: Probiotics can increase the cure rate of H. pylori infections through mechanisms such as inhibition, co-aggregation, enhancing mucus production, bacteriocin production, and immune response modulation. Combining standard antibiotic therapy with probiotics plays an important role in treating H. pylori infection effectively while reducing antibiotic side effects, however, probiotics' antagonist activities are strain-specific for H. pylori.

Effects of a Potential Probiotic Strain Lactobacillus gasseri ATCC 33323 on Helicobacter pylori-Induced Inflammatory Response and Gene Expression in Coinfected Gastric Epithelial Cells

Mahdieh Yarmohammadi et al.

Summary: The study aimed to investigate the modulatory effects of a potential probiotic bacterium Lactobacillus gasseri ATCC 33323 on Helicobacter pylori-induced inflammatory response and gene expression. The results showed that L. gasseri significantly decreased the production of IL-8 and down-regulated the expression of Bcl-2, beta-catenin, integrin alpha(5), and integrin beta(1) genes in H. pylori-infected gastric cancer cells.

Helicobacter pylori Virulence Factors-Mechanisms of Bacterial Pathogenicity in the Gastric Microenvironment

Jacek Baj et al.

Summary: Gastric cancer is a prevalent malignancy worldwide and ranks as the fourth leading cause of cancer-related deaths. The pathogenesis of gastric cancer involves the interaction between genetic and environmental factors, with Helicobacter pylori infection playing a major role. Understanding the mechanisms of H. pylori pathogenicity is crucial for developing eradication strategies to prevent carcinogenesis.

Helicobacter pylori Subdues Cytokine Signaling to Alter Mucosal Inflammation via Hypermethylation of Suppressor of Cytokine Signaling 1 Gene During Gastric Carcinogenesis

Iqra Jan et al.

Summary: Helicobacter pylori infection is associated with gastric mucosal inflammation and disrupts the balance of T-regulatory and T-helper 17 cells, leading to interleukin release. It also stimulates atypical DNA methylation in gastric mucosa. The infection induces epigenetic modifications in conjunction with inflammatory cytokines, contributing to gastric carcinogenesis.
