A predictive model for the relationship between processing conditions and properties of thermoplastic vulcanizates (TPVs) via machine learning

Xinhu Xu et al.

Summary: Thermoplastic vulcanizates (TPVs) have great potential for industrial applications due to their excellent processing performance and mechanical properties. Polymer processing plays a crucial role in determining the performance of TPV, but the relationship between polymer processing and TPV properties is difficult to fully understand through experimental means. In this study, a BP neural network model optimized by genetic algorithm was designed using machine learning. The prediction model achieved an R value of 0.95, accurately predicting the mechanical properties of different types of TPV. The impact of important processing factors on TPV properties was quantitatively analyzed through bivariate partial dependence plots. This research can effectively guide the processing and optimization of TPV properties.

Experimental investigation of composite metamaterial for underwater sound absorption

Nansha Gao et al.

Summary: We propose an underwater metamaterial that combines aluminum foam and polyurea. Three samples with different aluminum foam scatterers were tested for sound absorption coefficient in a water-filled impedance and anechoic tank. The results demonstrate that the large and small conical scatterers significantly enhance the sound absorption of the polyurea. This improvement is attributed to changes in sound propagation path and waveform transformation. The design and experimental results presented in this paper have potential guiding value in the development of underwater sound-absorbing functional materials.

Bio-based polylactic acid or epoxy natural rubber thermoplastic vulcanizates with dual interfacial compatibilization networks

Xinhu Xu et al.

Summary: The bio-based thermoplastic vulcanizates (TPVs) composed of polylactic acid (PLA) and epoxidized natural rubber (ENR) were prepared by the dynamic vulcanization method. A novel filler, bis(aminopropyl)-terminated polydimethylsiloxane (PDMS-NH2), was added as the compatibilizer. The TPVs showed dual interfacial compatibilization networks and exhibited higher tensile strength and elongation at break, as well as increased elastic modulus compared to the simple blend of ENR/PLA, demonstrating high toughness and mechanical strength.

Realizing the perfect sound absorption and broadening effective band using porous material and micro-perforated plate

Baozhu Cheng et al.

Summary: This paper proposes the methods of porous material filling and micro-perforated plate embedding to design a perfect sound absorber at different frequencies using the under-loss Helmholtz resonator. The theoretical calculation models of the sound absorption coefficients are constructed and verified. Experimental results show the effectiveness of the designed acoustic absorbers, providing reference for low-frequency broadband noise attenuation designs.

Low-frequency sound absorption of a metamaterial with symmetrical-coiled-up spaces

Gildean do N. Almeida et al.

Summary: This study presents a theoretical, numerical, and experimental investigation of a low-frequency acoustic absorber. By improving the acoustic metamaterial design, the absorber achieved a sound absorption efficiency of over 91% in the desired frequency range. The experimental results are in agreement with the theoretical model, validating the design approach for the new absorber.

Significantly improved high dielectric MWCNTs filled PVDF/PS/HDPE composites via constructing double bi-continuous structure

Lifeng Ma et al.

Summary: Multi-layer composites with vastly different electrical properties show promise for high dielectric applications, but fabrication can be complex and unsuitable for mass production. A novel PVDF/PS/HDPE composite with a tri-continuous structure was designed, featuring a double bi-continuous morphology by controlling the PS concentration. This composite demonstrated improved interfacial charge enrichment and interfacial polarization, resulting in a high-performance dielectric material with high epsilon ' and low tan delta.

Design and experimental investigation of broadband quasi-perfect composite loaded sound absorber at low frequencies

BaoZhu Cheng et al.

Summary: In this study, a composite loaded sound absorber (CLSA) was designed to achieve perfect sound absorption at specific frequencies using the complex frequency plane analysis method (CFPM), and broadband quasi-perfect sound absorption was achieved by applying different numbers of porous perfect absorber units. The experimental results confirmed the effectiveness of the CLSA in achieving quasi-perfect sound absorption.
