Renal damage induced by cadmium and its possible therapy by mitochondrial transplantation

Estefani Yaquelin Hernandez-Cruz et al.

Summary: Cadmium (Cd) is a toxic metal that can accumulate in living organisms, especially in the kidney. The mitochondria play a crucial role in Cd-induced kidney damage, leading to chronic kidney disease. Current therapies for Cd nephrotoxicity have limitations, and there is a need for new treatment approaches. Mitochondrial transplantation has shown promising results in reversing mitochondrial alterations caused by oxidative stress, and it is proposed as a novel therapy for Cd-induced kidney damage.

Experimental tests of cadmium and trace metals adsorption on natural clays and activated carbon from wet phosphoric acid

Kamal Samrane et al.

Summary: Cadmium and trace metals pose a challenge to the fertilizer industry. This study explores the potential of adsorption technology for removing these contaminants from wet phosphoric acid. Results showed effective adsorption of lead, but limited adsorption of cadmium and nickel. Chemical activation improved adsorption efficiency for chromium and arsenic. Sulfur-impregnated activated carbon did not exhibit significant adsorption capacity.

Highly selective complexation of cadmium from wet phosphoric acid by organic coordination ligands

Kamal Samrane et al.

Summary: The application of organic coordination ligands for cadmium removal from wet phosphoric acid has attracted great interest. The research aims to experiment new organic ligands potentially proved in various media for cadmium removal. Results show that DIBDPi, DEDTP, ZDDP, TBAI, Na2CS3, and Aliquat 366 have significant efficiency in cadmium removal under excess conditions.

Choice of Suitable Economic Adsorbents for the Reduction of Heavy Metal Pollution Load

Shabbir Hussain et al.

Summary: Heavy metals such as Hg, Cd, Cr, Pb, Zn, As and Ni are major pollutants that can enter the food chain and have adverse effects on human health. However, they can be effectively removed by eco-friendly and low-cost adsorbents derived from natural, agricultural, and industrial waste products. The efficiency of adsorption is influenced by various factors including functional groups, particle size, agitation speed, dose, initial concentration, temperature, and pH.

Alkali removal with mineral sorbents - Part I: Sorption capacity and reaction kinetics

Florian Kerscher et al.

Summary: Aluminosilicate sorbents have the potential to reduce alkali-related problems in solid fuel conversion, such as deposit build-up and corrosion damages. This study characterized three sorbents and found that kaolin has the highest loading capacity and temperature stability of the porous structure, making it superior in alkali sorption. However, all materials are suitable for use as sorbents in solid fuel conversion processes.
