Role of decaethoxylated stearylamine in the selective flotation of hornblende and siderite: An experimental and molecular dynamics simulation study

Bin Yang et al.

Summary: This study focused on the collection performance and sorption mechanisms of decaethoxylated stearylamine (DSA) as a high-selectivity hornblende collector. It was found that DSA efficiently collected hornblende, but had a poor collecting ability for siderite. The selective collection mechanisms of DSA for hornblende were attributed to electrostatic adsorption and hydrogen bonding interaction, leading to efficient desiliconization of the siderite flotation.

Reverse froth flotation separation of limonite and quartz with cationic gemini surfactant

Chang Liu et al.

Summary: A novel collector, EDDA, was synthesized and used in the reverse froth flotation of limonite and quartz. The results showed that EDDA had good floatation ability and selectivity to quartz, and it was more effective than the commonly used DDA. The high-efficiency separation of limonite and quartz could be achieved without adding depressant by using EDDA at the natural pH range.

A comparative study of biopolymer adsorption on model anisotropic clay surfaces using quartz crystal microbalance with dissipation (QCM-D)

Nahid Molaei et al.

Summary: Mitigation of colloid clay particles is crucial in flotation and flocculation processes in mineral processing. Traditional mitigation reagents have negative impacts on the environment and human health, thus biologically derived substances are gaining attention as alternative reagents. This study investigated the adsorption characteristics of three biopolymers on the anisotropic edge and basal plane surfaces of clays, providing insights into their interactions with clay surfaces during selective flotation and flocculation.

Enhancing flotation separation of fine copper oxide from silica by microbubble assisted hydrophobic aggregation

Qiurong Long et al.

Summary: This study aims at studying hydrophobic aggregation and in situ gas nucleation of fine copper oxides with sodium dodecyl sulfate (SDS) as a selective collector to enhance CuO recovery. Experimental results show an enhanced aggregation of fine CuO by SDS adsorption. Particle aggregation assisted by gas nuclei improves its recovery from fine silica.

Flotation performance of a novel Gemini collector for kaolinite at low temperature

Shiyong Zhang et al.

Summary: This study introduced a novel amino-based Gemini surfactant BBDB as a collector for kaolinite flotation, which showed better performance than the common monomolecular surfactant DDA at low temperature. The tests results indicated that BBDB could significantly improve the hydrophobicity of the kaolinite surface and achieve higher kaolinite recovery rates compared to DDA.

Unravelling the performance of oxycarbonyl-thiocarbamate collectors on chalcopyrite using first-principles calculations and micro-flotation recoveries

Peace P. Mkhonto et al.

Summary: Using first-principle quantum mechanical density functional theory, the study explored the adsorption behavior and electronic properties of oxycarbonyl-thiocarbamate collectors with chalcopyrite surfaces. The results indicated that BBCTC and BECTC are better collectors for the selective flotation of chalcopyrite minerals, with a straight hydrocarbon chain exhibiting stronger adsorption than a branched hydrocarbon chain.

Summary: The research found that in the reverse flotation of iron oxide, using the pH regulator before the starch depressant resulted in the best flotation performance, significantly improving recovery and separation efficiencies. Additionally, under strong alkaline conditions, the mass of the starch adsorption layer on the surface of iron oxide increased.

Rui Li et al.

Summary: This study investigated the properties of two surfactants based on fatty acids and their impact on oil-water interfacial tension, oil droplet spreading, and receding processes. MEA-OA showed more effectiveness in suppressing spreading and receding dynamics of oil droplets, possibly due to its longer aliphatic chains.

Influence of aggregation/dispersion state of hydrophilic particles on their entrainment in fine mineral particle flotation

Daowei Wang et al.

Summary: This study investigated the effect of aggregation/dispersion behaviors of fine hydrophilic particles on their entrainment in batch flotation, finding that in the presence of high dosage of corn starch or corn dextrin, fine hematite was primarily recovered into froth through entrainment rather than true flotation. This research provides evidence for the feasibility of the proposed two-stage aggregation/flocculation flotation concept for fine and ultrafine mineral particles.
