A Survey of Fault-Tolerance Techniques for Embedded Systems From the Perspective of Power, Energy, and Thermal Issues

Sepideh Safari et al.

Summary: This paper provides an in-depth survey of task mapping/scheduling policies for fault-tolerance real-time embedded systems. It reviews and classifies these policies according to their goals and constraints, considering factors such as application models and hardware models. The survey analyzes the achievements and shortcomings of existing approaches and highlights the most promising ones.

Real-Time Scheduling of Parallel Task Graphs With Critical Sections Across Different Vertices

Xu Jiang et al.

Summary: Previous studies on real-time scheduling assumed that critical sections must be contained within a single vertex, but this assumption does not hold in realistic parallel real-time software. In this work, the authors conducted the first study on scheduling and analysis of parallel task graphs where critical sections can cross different vertices. The study showed that allowing this may lead to deadlocks and resource unrelated blocking time problems, and proposed two solutions to address them and develop corresponding schedulability analysis techniques.

Optimized scheduling algorithm for soft Real-Time System using particle swarm optimization technique

Jay Teraiya et al.

Summary: This paper proposes a swarm intelligence-based scheduling algorithm that identifies critical tasks using particle swarm optimization, improving efficiency in both underload and overload scenarios. Compared to existing EDF and ACO based algorithms, the proposed algorithm performs better in overload and highly overload situations in real-time systems.

Summary: This paper presents a flush task incorporated priority-inheritance protocol (FT-PIP) for global fixed-priority multiprocessor scheduling that aims to achieve both timing guarantees and satisfy security constraints. The study demonstrates the effectiveness of FT-PIP and its schedulability analysis in simulations.
