Rapid and sensitive detection of E. coli O157:H7 by lateral flow immunoassay and silver enhancement

Summary: The study developed a sensitive lateral flow immunoassay (LFIA) for rapid detection of Escherichia coli (E. coli) O157:H7, a pathogen responsible for worldwide diseases and fatalities. Gold nanoparticles were synthesized and coated with a carboxylated heterobifunctional PEG polymer to be used as a label in sandwich-LFIA. A silver enhancement strategy was developed to amplify the signal, reducing the limit of detection (LOD). The system demonstrated improved sensitivity compared to the conventional LFIA system and showed effectiveness in quickly detecting pathogenic bacteria in food products.

Porphyrin and phthalocyanine based covalent organic frameworks for electrocatalysis

Summary: Covalent organic frameworks (COFs) are a rapidly growing class of crystalline porous polymers that have a wide range of applications due to their unique features. By incorporating porphyrin (Por-) and phthalocyanine (Pc-) building units into COFs, they acquire unique structural characteristics and excellent optical and electrical properties. Recent progress has been made in the rational design and construction of Por- and Pc-based COFs for electrocatalytic water splitting, CO2 reduction, and oxygen reduction. This article provides a summary of the synthetic strategies of Por- and Pc-based COFs, an overview of their applications in electrocatalytic reactions, and discusses the current challenges and directions for further development.

Metal-Organic Frameworks Meet Molecularly Imprinted Polymers: Insights and Prospects for Sensor Applications

Heterogeneous Bimetallic (La-Fe) Metal-Organic-Frameworks as an Efficient Bifunctional Catalyst for High-Performance Supercapacitors and Electrochemical Sensors

Summary: Due to the growing population and modernized lifestyle, there is an increasing demand for energy storage devices in commercial electronic devices. In this study, the synthesized La-Fe MOFs showed good electrochemical activity and were used as battery-type electrodes. Further modification of La-Fe MOFs improved the surface area and catalytic capability of the composites. The developed sensor based on La-Fe MOFs showed good linearity and low detection limits for chlorambucil and paracetamol. The stability and selectivity of the sensor were analyzed, and the La-Fe MOFs exhibited high charge storage capacity. The addition of Fe to the La-MOFs improved the electrochemical performance, making it a promising candidate for electrochemical energy storage devices to meet global energy demand.

The catalysts showed excellent electrocatalytic activities for CO2-to-CO conversion with high faradaic efficiency and current density, attributed to the efficient metal-N catalytic sites generated by the cooperative immobilization of metal atoms with pyridinic-N and pyrrolic-N species in the mesoporous carbon matrix.
