Image classification combined with faster R-CNN for the peak detection of complex components and their metabolites in untargeted LC-HRMS data

Jun Zeng et al.

Summary: In this paper, an automatic method called Peak_CF based on convolutional neural network (CNN) and Faster R-CNN is proposed for peak detection in untargeted LC-HRMS data. It achieves high accuracy and high recall (>90%) in detecting target peaks as verified by an evaluation data-set. Peak_CF outperforms other methods in detecting known compounds and overall peak shape judgment, and it has strong generalization ability.

Research on the chemical composition of Mentha haplocalyx volatile oils from different geographical origins by comprehensive two-dimensional gas chromatography/time-of-flight mass spectrometry in combination with principal component analysis and the enrichment of bioactive compounds by particle-assisted solvent sublation

Chen Yan et al.

Summary: The chemical composition of Mentha haplocalyx volatile oils from different origins was studied using GC/MS and GC x GC/TOFMS. A total of 67 compounds were identified by GC/MS and 1956 compounds were identified by GC x GC/TOFMS from five Mentha haplocalyx samples. Significant differences in chemical composition were observed between Anhui and other regions, particularly in the abundance of Isopiperitone, Levomenthol, and Isomenthone. PCA analysis showed that GC x GC/TOFMS was better than GC/MS in identifying the authenticity of Mentha haplocalyx medicinal materials. Active compounds were enriched using the particle-assisted solvent flotation method for further research on food additives or pharmacological activities.

Investigation of partition coefficients and fingerprints of atmospheric gas- and particle-phase intermediate volatility and semi-volatile organic compounds using pixel-based approaches

Kai Song et al.

Summary: The gas and particle phases of intermediate volatility and semi-volatile organic compounds (I/SVOCs) in Beijing were analyzed using thermal desorption comprehensive two-dimensional gas chromatography quadrupole mass spectrometry (TD-GC x GC-qMS). A pixel-based scheme was used to estimate partition coefficients and identify fingerprints. The analysis revealed a diverse range of chemical classes in both phases, with acids, alkanes, and aromatics dominating in the gas phase, and esters, alkanes, acids, and siloxanes abundant in the particle phase. Air pollutants were evaluated using a linear free energy relationship (LFER) model and key components in the gas phase were identified using multiway principal component analysis (MPCA) and partial least squares-discriminant analysis (PLS-DA).

Tile-Based Pairwise Analysis of GC x GC-TOFMS Data to Facilitate Analyte Discovery and Mass Spectrum Purification

Caitlin N. Cain et al.

Summary: A new tile-based pairwise analysis workflow, termed 1v1 analysis, is presented to discover and identify analytes that differentiate two chromatograms collected using comprehensive two-dimensional gas chromatography coupled with time-of-flight mass spectrometry (GC x GC-TOFMS). This workflow easily discovers and identifies non-native analytes, outperforming standard pairwise chromatographic analyses. Furthermore, the development of CCE-MSP assisted MCR-ALS allows for more accurate analyte spectrum determination.

A novel locality-sensitive hashing relational graph matching network for semantic textual similarity measurement

Haozhe Li et al.

Summary: Recent efforts in semantic textual similarity (STS) task have focused on interaction-based models to predict the semantic equivalence of two sentences. However, these methods lack global semantic awareness and suffer from high computation cost. To address these issues, a novel model called LSHRGMN is proposed, which utilizes syntactic dependency graph and locality-sensitive hashing (LSH) to improve accuracy and speed in inference.
