Metal-organic frameworks (MOFs) are widely used for the detection of cancer biomarkers due to their permanent porosity and tunable pore size. This review focuses on the electrochemical detection of cancer biomarkers using MOFs. The importance of tunable porosity and surface areas in MOFs for sensor development is discussed. The applications of MOF biosensors in detecting target cancer biomarkers are also highlighted, along with the challenges and future directions in this field.
Metal-organic frameworks (MOFs) are a prominent porous material for cancer biomarkers detection. They are enriched with unique features of permanent porosity and tunable pore size, leading to their efficient use in biosensing. In this review, we have summarized and studied MOF materials for the electrochemical detection of cancer biomarkers. First, insight into the tunable porosity and surface areas have been discussed to explore the applicability of MOFs. MOFs porosity and functional sites are critical to the development of the sensor. Then, MOF biosensors for target cancer biomarkers detection have been discussed. In addition, the MOFs biosensors challenges and future direction are discussed to provide next-generation biosensors.
