A coffee-ring effect-based paper sensor chip for the determination of beta-lactoglobulin in foods via a smartphone

Jingyi Yang et al.

Summary: A method using a coffee-ring effect (CRE)-based paper sensor chip combined with a smartphone has been developed for the determination of allergen beta-lactoglobulin (beta-LG) in foods. The method utilizes fluorescence quenching and image analysis software to rapidly and quantitatively detect beta-LG. It has been validated for analysis of real food samples.

Rational design of MoS2 QDs and Eu3+ as a ratiometric fluorescent probe for point-of-care visual quantitative detection of tetracycline via smartphone-based portable platform

Jingfei Zhang et al.

Summary: The abuse of tetracycline has caused irreversible damage to public health and the environment. This study developed a ratiometric fluorescent probe using MoS2 QDs and Eu3+ to detect tetracycline residues. The probe showed enhanced sensitivity and accuracy in detecting tetracycline, and a smartphone-based portable platform was designed for visual quantitative detection. This work provides a sensitive and rapid method for real-time detection of environmental pollutants.

Intelligently design primary aromatic amines derived carbon dots for optical dual-mode and smartphone imaging detection of nitrite based on specific diazo coupling

Yumin Hao et al.

Summary: Primary aromatic amines derived carbon dots with high quantum yield and protonated amino groups were synthesized through solvothermal treatment. The interaction between the carbon dots and nitrite exhibited strong fluorescence quenching, absorption variation, and chromogenic reaction. These carbon dots were developed into an optical dual-mode and smartphone imaging sensor for selective and sensitive NO2- detection.

Quantitative Visual Detection of Mercury Ions With Ratiometric Fluorescent Test Paper Sensor

Mimi Fan et al.

Summary: A novel ratiometric fluorescence probe based on nitrogen-doped blue carbon dots (NCDs) and red gold nanoclusters (Au NCs) was developed for the detection of mercuric ion (Hg2+). A user-friendly fluorescent test paper sensor combined with a smartphone was fabricated for rapid visual and quantitative detection. The probe's ability to selectively bind with Hg2+ on the surface of Au NCs allows for the quenching of red fluorescence while the blue fluorescence of the NCDs remains unchanged, enabling accurate and efficient detection of Hg2+.

Rapid and selective detection of picric acid based on supramolecular self-assembly of a cationic perylene diimide in pure aqueous media

Weilian Zheng et al.

Summary: The detection of picric acid is crucial for environmental protection and public safety. This study presents a fluorescent probe based on perylene diimide derivative, which allows for sensitive and selective detection of picric acid in 100% aqueous solution. The probe's self-assembly relies on the synergistic effect of non-covalent interactions including static electricity, hydrophobic interaction, charge transfer, and π-π stacking.

Fang Liu et al.

Summary: In this study, boron carbon oxynitride quantum dots were prepared and their fluorescence properties and applications in detecting organophosphorus pesticides were investigated. The fluorescence of boron carbon oxynitride quantum dots was effectively quenched by manganese dioxide nanosheets, and the detection of organophosphorus pesticides was achieved through the catalytic action of acetylcholinesterase.

Protonation- and electrostatic-interaction-based fluorescence probes for the selective detection of picric acid (2,4,6-trinitrophenol) - an explosive material

Sukhvinder Dhiman et al.

Summary: Due to its low pK (a) value, picric acid has distinct physicochemical properties from other nitroaromatic derivatives, making it suitable for the design of fluorescent probes for sensitive and selective detection. The electrostatic interactions between positively charged/protonated fluorophores and picrate anions play a key role in the efficient detection of picric acid. This comprehensive review of fluorescent probes for picric acid detection based on electrostatic interactions will serve as a benchmark for future design strategies.
