Risk Factors of Microvascular Complications Among Type 2 Diabetic Patients Using Cox Proportional Hazards Models: A Cohort Study in Tabuk Saudi Arabia

Nasrin S. Saiyed et al.

Summary: This study aimed to investigate the incidence of microvascular complications in Saudi Arabian patients with T2D and assess the impact of associated risk factors. The results showed that advanced age, longer duration of T2D, uncontrolled hypertension, poor glycaemic control, obesity, and dyslipidaemia were significant risk factors for microvascular complications. Therefore, a context-specific accessible public health program focusing on promoting a healthy lifestyle, physical activity, and a healthy diet, as well as early diagnosis and management of diabetes, needs to be developed and implemented.

Variability of risk factors and diabetes complications

Antonio Ceriello et al.

Summary: Studies suggest that variability of risk factors such as blood pressure, plasma lipids, and weight may play a role in diabetes complications, with potential additive effects. While causality of variability is uncertain, monitoring risk factor variability in clinical practice could improve quality of care.
