A scoping review of person and family engagement in the context of multiple chronic conditions

Judith B. Vick et al.

Summary: This study reviewed conceptual models of engagement for persons with MCCs and related review articles, finding that existing evidence mainly focuses on individual-level strategies rather than targeting organizations, systems, or policies. Barriers to engagement and potential downsides are not well described, and family engagement is rarely considered. Promising areas for future work include addressing barriers to engagement such as trust, goal-based care, structural changes in care delivery, cost-benefit trade-offs, and family engagement.
