Experimental and numerical exploration on the nonlinear dynamic behaviors of a novel bearing lubricated by low viscosity lubricant

Zhongliang Xie et al.

Summary: The high temperature liquid Lead-Bismuth (PbBi) solution lubricated bearing plays a crucial role in the two-circuit main loop system of nuclear power stations. This study developed revised dynamic lubrication models considering cavitation effects and investigated the influences of clearances, rotating speeds, eccentricity ratios, and annular guiding grooves on the hydrodynamic characteristics. The results confirm the relationship between peak pressure, speeds, and eccentricity ratios, as well as the impact of clearances on maximum/minimum pressure. Theoretical analysis coincided with experimental data, verifying the rationality and correctness of the lubrication models.

Nonlinear characteristic investigation of magnetorheological damper-rotor system with local nonlinearity

Jun Wang et al.

Summary: Magnetorheological (MR) dampers have excellent performance in reducing rotor vibration, but their high nonlinearity can lead to nonsynchronous response, resulting in fatigue and instability of rotors. This study focuses on the nonlinear characteristics of MR dampers mounted on flexible rotors. A hybrid numerical method is proposed to solve the nonlinear motion equations of the MR damper-rotor system. Experimental studies are conducted to evaluate the effects of different system parameters on the nonlinear dynamic behaviors of the MR damper-rotor system. The results show that suitable excitation current and oil supply pressure can effectively alleviate the level of nonlinearity.

Theoretical and experimental study on the fluid-structure-acoustic coupling dynamics of a new water lubricated bearing

Zhongliang Xie et al.

Summary: This study presents a breakthrough in the performance of load increase, drag reduction, vibration decrease and noise containment through the design of a double-liner bearing structure. By constructing a fluid-structure-acoustic interaction hydrodynamic model and analyzing the lubrication performances considering cavitation effects and sound radiation, the study investigates the fluid-structure-acoustic characteristics and sound radiation laws with different material combinations, as well as the effects of operating conditions on deformation and stress. The results show a close relationship between acoustic performances and material combinations.

The fluid-structure interaction lubrication performances of a novel bearing: Experimental and numerical study

Zhongliang Xie et al.

Summary: This paper proposes a novel double-liner bearing to overcome the disadvantages of traditional water-lubricated single-liner bearings, aiming for breakthroughs in high-load, low-resistance, vibration attenuation, and noise reduction performances. By establishing a fluid-structure interaction dynamic model of the sandwich liner bearing and considering turbulent effects, the influences of eccentricity ratios and liner thickness on lubrication performance are studied, revealing the evolution mechanisms of liner thickness on lubrication performances. The results demonstrate superior lubrication behaviors in the sandwich liner bearing. This study enriches the theoretical systems of lubrication and provides new ideas and approaches for bearing design and R&D, which is of significant importance.

Experimental and numerical study on the mixed lubrication performances of a new bearing

Zhongliang Xie et al.

Summary: Traditional water-lubricated bearings face challenges in forming effective lubricating film under extreme low-speed and heavy-duty conditions, leading to shortcomings such as low-load, high-resistance, high-vibration, and high-noise. The paper proposes a novel multi-field coupling lubrication model to investigate the mixed lubrication performances and critical characteristics of these bearings. By developing functional mapping relationships and building rotor dynamic models, the paper reveals the variation mechanisms of dynamic behaviors and verifies the correctness of the model and algorithm through theoretical analysis and experiment. The academic value of this research is expected to achieve a novel breakthrough in forming effective hydrodynamic film under extreme severe conditions for water-lubricated bearings.

Dynamic performance of a novel integral magnetorheological damper-rotor system

Jun Wang et al.

Summary: Magnetorheological dampers (MRDs) are effective in vibration control in rotor systems, but they have limitations in dealing with nonlinear behaviors under large eccentricity and controlling the direction of damping force. To address these issues, this paper proposes an integral magnetorheological damper (IMRD) that allows adjustable magnitude and direction of oil film force. The IMRD model is implemented in a flexible rotor system, and the results show that IMRD can provide pure damping with adjustable stiffness and reduce nonlinearity compared to traditional MRDs.

Theoretical and experimental exploration into the fluid structure coupling dynamic behaviors towards water-lubricated bearing with axial asymmetric grooves

Zhongliang Xie et al.

Summary: This study investigates the fluid structure interaction (FSI) dynamic behaviors of water-lubricated bearings with axial asymmetric grooves. Revised FSI models considering cavitation and turbulent effects are proposed. The simulations are consistent with existing literature and experimental data, confirming the accuracy of the model. The effects of groove types and locations on dynamic behaviors are systematically explored, showing that the separation effects of the local asymmetric grooves coupled with the rotation effects enhance the hydrodynamic effects, leading to increased maximum pressure values and load carrying capacity (LCC).
