Framework for stochastic modelling of long-term non-homogeneous data with non-Gaussian characteristics for machine condition prognosis

Wojciech Zulawinski et al.

Summary: The paper proposes a framework for modeling long-term non-homogeneous data with non-Gaussian properties and validates it using real data. The novelty of this research lies in the use of non-Gaussian data, which reveals new findings for the predictive maintenance community and opens up new research directions.

Summary: This study proposes an adaptation of HMM for signal segmentation in HI data that behave differently depending on machine condition. The proposed approach effectively finds the borders between the segments, allowing for early stage damage detection and effective identification of change points.

Using long-term condition monitoring data with non-Gaussian noise for online diagnostics

Hamid Shiri et al.

Summary: The number of timely diagnoses based on condition monitoring data is increasing, but the lack of specific limit values or thresholds poses challenges, especially in unique machine cases. Additionally, the non-Gaussian noise inherent in observed processes in many real applications makes diagnostics difficult. This paper introduces a robust methodology called switching maximum correntropy Kalman filter (SMCKF) that addresses the issues of threshold and online diagnostics in the presence of non-Gaussian noise using condition monitoring (CM) data. The proposed approach, based on dynamic behavior, eliminates the need for a diagnostic threshold and proves effective in both simulated and real data sets.

Optimization of the Operation and Maintenance of renewable energy systems by Deep Reinforcement Learning

Luca Pinciroli et al.

Summary: This study utilizes Prognostics & Health Management (PHM) capabilities to support equipment of renewable energy systems, estimating their health state and predicting Remaining Useful Life (RUL). The authors propose a novel formulation of the optimization problem and solve it using Deep Reinforcement Learning (DRL). The approach, tested in a wind farm O&M problem, outperforms other DRL algorithms and automatically discovers the best performing policy.

Detecting multiple generalized change-points by isolating single ones

Andreas Anastasiou et al.

Summary: The Isolate-Detect (ID) method is introduced for estimating the number and location of multiple change-points in noisy data sequences, using isolation techniques to enhance accuracy. Model selection in ID is carried out through various methods, leading to a general approach with good practical performance. In testing scenarios, ID is shown to be at least as accurate as state-of-the-art methods and outperforms them in most cases.

Summary: Traditional rotary machine breakdown detection systems are costly and reactive, while real-time monitoring and machine learning offer a more efficient solution. By extracting key features and modeling, machine learning can automatically detect anomalies and provide a traffic light system for engineers to take appropriate measures.

A nonparametric health index and its statistical threshold for machine condition monitoring

Jingjing Zhong et al.

Summary: Machine condition monitoring uses monitoring data to evaluate machine health conditions and conduct condition-based maintenance. Popular indices for this purpose include kurtosis, entropy, Gini index, and smoothness index, falling into a unified framework. This paper proposes statistical modeling and analysis of normalized square envelope spectrum to construct a nonparametric health index and statistical threshold for machine condition monitoring, addressing the limitations of parametric health indices.

A threshold self-setting condition monitoring scheme for wind turbine generator bearings based on deep convolutional generative adversarial networks

Peng Chen et al.

Summary: This research introduces a self-setting threshold HCM scheme based on deep convolutional generative adversarial networks (DCGAN) for monitoring wind turbine generator bearings. The scheme automatically creates a threshold for HCM through the output of the G network in the DCGAN model and solves the challenging problem of setting up a threshold. Furthermore, the use of Nash Equilibrium for training allows this scheme to become self-defined evaluators with a high level of consistency, without any human intervention and can be treated as a self-defined threshold, and it is a model self-tuning process.

Market risk factors analysis for an international mining company. Multi-dimensional, heavy-tailed-based modelling

Lukasz Bielak et al.

Summary: This paper focuses on analyzing the mid- and long-term dynamics of two main risk factors – copper price and Polish zloty exchange rate - for KGHM, a major player in the metals and mining industry. The study aims to help mining companies evaluate downside market risks and optimize hedging instruments, while also highlighting the importance of understanding the combined dynamics of these factors with the price of copper in Polish zloty.
