A DBSCAN-based automated operational modal analysis algorithm for bridge monitoring

Marco Civera et al.

Summary: Advanced data analysis techniques, such as Automated Operational Modal Analysis (AOMA) algorithms, are crucial for the Structural Health Monitoring (SHM) of civil buildings and infrastructures. AOMA enables the unsupervised estimation of modal parameters from ambient vibrations, allowing for efficient and continuous assessment of the integrity of massive structures like reinforced concrete (RC) bridges. However, the reliability of the classification between 'possibly physical' and 'certainly spurious' modes using binary clustering may be limited. This study applies Density-Based Spatial Clustering of Applications with Noise (DBSCAN) to overcome this limitation and provides automated outlier detection and removal.

Bridge monitoring: Application of the extreme function theory for damage detection on the I-40 case study

D. Martucci et al.

Summary: The Extreme Function Theory (EFT) provides a convenient tool for mode shape-based damage detection. When coupled with Gaussian Process Regression (GPR), this statistical framework offers an automatic and efficient means for Structural Health Monitoring (SHM), specifically to reduce false positive errors. Experimental testing on the I-40 bridge case study confirms the applicability of the EFT-based approach for large civil structures and infrastructures.

Development of Moving Force Identification for Simply Supported Bridges: A Comprehensive Review and Comparison

Hai-Chao Zhou et al.

Summary: This paper provides a comprehensive review of moving force identification on simply supported bridges. It introduces the development and application of moving force identification, presents the theoretical methods of bridge moving force identification, and numerically simulates and compares the robustness and accuracy of moving time-varying force identification methods. The characteristics of these methods are summarized, which provides a basis for selecting suitable identification methods and prospects for further development of moving force identification.

Moving Force Identification Based on Group Lasso and Compressed Sensing

Luqi Zhang et al.

Summary: This study proposes a new Moving Force Identification (MFI) framework using group sparsity theory and compressed sensing (CS) to enhance the accuracy of bridge structural health monitoring (SHM) when vehicles cross the bridge. A redundant dictionary based on CS is used to establish the motion equation of the vehicle-bridge system, and each moving force is divided into different non-overlapping groups for accurate reconstruction. Numerical simulations and experimental verifications demonstrate that the proposed framework outperforms traditional methods in terms of identification accuracy and robustness to measurement noises.

Moving force identification based on learning dictionary with double sparsity

Zi-Hang Zhang et al.

Summary: Moving force identification (MFI) is crucial for ensuring the safety of bridges. This study introduces dictionary learning (DL) into the field of MFI to design a better fit force dictionary based on measured response data. A novel MFI method based on learning dictionary with double sparsity is proposed, which effectively estimates moving forces through the use of a sparse K-SVD algorithm. Numerical simulations and experimental studies confirm the effectiveness and robustness of the proposed method.

Fast identification of random loads using the transmissibility of power spectral density and improved adaptive multiplicative regularization

Qizhi Tang et al.

Summary: This study proposes an innovative method for random load identification, using the transmissibility of power spectral density (PSD) and an improved adaptive multiplicative regularization. The method simplifies the iterative process in conventional methods and reduces the computational cost. Numerical and experimental validation shows that the method accurately locates random loads and exhibits high efficiency in the load reconstruction.

Identification of joint structural state and earthquake input based on a generalized Kalman filter with unknown input

Jinshan Huang et al.

Summary: This paper introduces a generalized Kalman filter for identifying structural states and unknown earthquake inputs in real-time, avoiding the issue of result drift seen in identifications under unknown external excitations. The proposed method also considers structural modeling errors and is able to be extended for high-rise shear buildings.
