Interaction of microswimmers in viscoelastic liquid crystals

Hai Chi et al.

Summary: The authors computationally studied the behavior of microswimmers in a visco-elastic medium and found that the motion of one swimmer influenced another and that swimmers changed speed when moving backwards. They observed that swimming bacteria can successfully colonize complex non-Newtonian environments, such as viscoelastic media and liquid crystals.

State of the art of bacterial chemotaxis

Richa Karmakar

Summary: Bacterial chemotaxis is the biased movement of bacteria towards or away from a chemical gradient, achieved through chemoreceptors sensing the gradient. Escherichia coli is commonly used in studies, utilizing flagella for movement and regulated by a network of interacting proteins. This process plays a key role in various biological processes and may have applications in bioremediation, gene transfer, drug delivery, or other industries.
